Delhi Expands Electric Bus Fleet With 200 New Electric Buses
Delhi has significantly expanded its Delhi electric bus fleet expansion with the flag-off of 200 new electric buses aimed at strengthening public transport and reducing emissions. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that 140 of these buses will be deployed under the DEVi (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector) feeder service, which focuses on improving last-mile connectivity across the city.
Local reports indicate that the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has introduced a mix of 7-metre, 9-metre, and 12-metre electric buses. While 9-metre buses were initially used for DEVi services, 7-metre models have now been added to navigate narrow streets and improve operational efficiency in dense urban areas.
Delhi Electric Bus Fleet Expansion DEVi Service Operations
The Delhi electric bus fleet expansion DEVi service strategy is focused on improving accessibility in residential and congested areas. Smaller buses supplied by PMI Electro Mobility and JBM Ecolife are being used for feeder routes, while larger 12-metre buses are deployed on main corridors and intercity routes such as Delhi–Rohtak.
The 12-metre fleet includes models like JBM Ecolife’s 12dl and Switch Mobility’s EiV12 low-floor buses, designed for high-capacity urban transport. This combination of vehicle sizes allows the system to operate efficiently across both narrow lanes and major highways.
Delhi Electric Bus Charging Infrastructure East Vinod Nagar Depot
As part of the Delhi electric bus charging infrastructure East Vinod Nagar depot, a new charging station has been inaugurated to support the growing fleet. The facility includes 30 charging points with up to 240 kW output capacity and can service around 120 buses daily.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted that infrastructure development is being aligned with fleet expansion, ensuring consistent electricity supply and operational readiness as the number of electric buses increases across the city.
Delhi EV Policy 2026 2030 Electric Bus Targets Growth
The Delhi EV policy 2026 2030 electric bus targets outline an ambitious roadmap for expanding sustainable transport. DTC currently operates about 6,300 buses, including 4,538 electric and 1,759 CNG buses. The government aims to scale the electric fleet to 7,000 buses by the end of this year and further expand it to 14,000 by 2028-29.
Feedback is currently being collected from stakeholders for the proposed policy, which focuses on accelerating EV adoption and strengthening charging infrastructure across the city.
