Delhi Increases Environment Compensation Charges For Commercial Vehicles

The revised rates were implemented by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi following a Supreme Court directive aimed at tackling rising air pollution levels in the capital. The new charges are already in effect at all entry points into the city.

Light commercial vehicles and 2-axle trucks will now pay ₹2,000 instead of ₹1,400, marking a 43 percent increase. For 3-axle and multi-axle heavy trucks, the fee has been raised from ₹2,600 to ₹4,000, reflecting an increase of around 53 to 54 percent. The structure also includes an automatic 5 percent annual increase from April 1 every year, rounded to the nearest ₹10.

Supreme Court Order Drives Delhi Pollution Control Fee Hike

The Supreme Court Delhi pollution control fee order came in the MC Mehta vs Union of India case, where the revised charges proposed by the Commission for Air Quality Management were approved as reasonable and justified. The court directed immediate implementation, uniform toll collection, and coordination with the National Highways Authority of India.
