Hyundai And TVS Motor Partner To Develop Electric Three-Wheelers In India
Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company have officially entered into a joint development agreement India EV partnership aimed at co-creating electric three-wheelers for last-mile mobility. The agreement was formalised on April 20, 2026, during meetings held in Seoul and New Delhi, marking a strategic collaboration between the two automotive companies to tap into one of the world’s largest three-wheeler markets.
The initiative focuses on designing, developing, and commercialising electric three-wheelers that can serve both passenger and cargo mobility needs, with an emphasis on scalability across India and international markets.
Hyundai TVS Electric Three-Wheeler Design And Manufacturing Strategy
Under the Hyundai TVS electric three-wheeler agreement, Hyundai Motor Company will lead the vehicle design process and contribute its global research and development capabilities, along with its human-centric design philosophy and mobility technologies.
TVS Motor Company will co-develop the electric platform using its engineering expertise and EV ecosystem experience. The company will also take responsibility for manufacturing and sales operations within India, ensuring that production meets domestic demand while also supporting future export opportunities.
A key aspect of the collaboration is localisation. Both companies have committed to sourcing and manufacturing major components within India. This localisation strategy is expected to strengthen the automotive supply chain, reduce production costs, generate employment opportunities, and improve serviceability through better spare parts availability and after-sales support.
The companies had previously showcased an electric three-wheeler concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, which laid the foundation for this formal agreement.
Electric Three-Wheeler India Market And Product Features
The upcoming electric three-wheeler India market product is designed specifically for last-mile transportation needs, which include passenger movement, goods delivery, and emergency services.
The production model is expected to include adaptive ground clearance for handling monsoon road conditions, advanced thermal management systems, and flexible interior configurations that allow multiple use cases. These features are intended to make the vehicle suitable for diverse operational environments across urban and semi-urban regions.
India, being the world’s largest three-wheeler market, is expected to serve as the launch base for the first model under this partnership. The collaboration is positioned to address growing demand for efficient and affordable electric mobility solutions in the commercial transport segment.
Hyundai TVS Partnership EV Mobility India Background And Vision
The Hyundai TVS partnership EV mobility India initiative builds on discussions that date back to 2018 during the India-Korea Business Forum, where the idea of jointly developing a high-quality three-wheeler was first explored between Indian and Korean stakeholders.
After multiple rounds of discussions and development efforts, the concept has now materialised into a formal agreement under the 2026 Korea-India Business Forum.
The partnership reflects a broader strategic push to accelerate electric mobility adoption in India while combining global design expertise with local manufacturing strength. Both companies aim to position the product as a scalable solution for emerging mobility needs in developing and export markets.
