ZF CVCS India Secures ADAS Contract for Electric Bus Platforms

ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems (CVCS) India has been nominated by an Indian bus manufacturer to supply an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite for its upcoming electric bus platforms. The contract covers system supply, vehicle integration, calibration, and validation, with production scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. The ADAS solution is based on ZF’s OnGuardMAX platform, which combines a front camera, mid-range radar, and image processing module to enable Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) along with a wide range of driver assistance functions. ZF’s Short-Range Radar (SRR) complements the system by covering blind spots on the sides and front, particularly critical for large bus configurations.

Integrated Safety Systems for Electric Buses

The ADAS suite integrates ZF’s Electronic Braking System (EBS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), creating a unified architecture that enhances braking response, controlled deceleration, and rollover resistance. Designed specifically for electric bus platforms, the system helps reduce accident exposure, optimise brake wear, minimise vehicle downtime, and maintain consistent route performance. The system complies with India’s GSR 184(E) safety regulation, covering 16 driver assistance functions, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning, Moving Off Information, and Blind Spot Information. The solution has been validated over 450,000 kilometres of Indian roads and carries ARAI certification.

Local Expertise Meets Global Technology

Paramjit Singh Chadha, Managing Director of ZF CVCS India, emphasized the company’s combination of local knowledge of Indian road conditions with global engineering expertise from ZF Group. Akash Passey, Non-Executive Chairman, highlighted the increasing demand for driver assistance technologies among Indian electric mobility OEMs. ZF CVCS India has been actively securing ADAS projects from domestic commercial vehicle manufacturers, reflecting the growing adoption of safety technologies across the bus and truck segments in India.
