Daimler India Opens Healthcare Clinic for Truck Drivers in Tamil Nadu

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, inaugurated a dedicated physiotherapy and primary healthcare clinic in Sangagiri, Tamil Nadu, on April 2, 2026. Established in partnership with Smile Foundation, the facility aims to improve healthcare access for long-haul truck drivers and underserved local communities.

Clinic to Serve Thousands in Key Trucking Hub

The Sangagiri clinic is strategically located in one of Tamil Nadu’s major trucking hubs. It is expected to serve approximately 13,500 beneficiaries, with over 70% from the commercial driving community. The initiative focuses on addressing health challenges commonly faced by drivers, who often delay seeking treatment until conditions worsen.

Services Offered

The clinic provides a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including:

  • Physiotherapy for musculoskeletal issues
  • Outpatient consultations
  • Eye check-ups and vision care
  • Preventive health screenings
  • Referral support for advanced treatments

A team of doctors, physiotherapists, optometrists, and community mobilisers will staff the clinic. A digital patient management system ensures proper monitoring and continuity of care.

Operating Schedule

The facility will be operational six days a week, ensuring consistent healthcare access for truck drivers and the surrounding community.

Addressing Driver Health and Safety

Focus on Early Intervention

Industry studies show that truck drivers often delay medical attention, leading to worsened conditions. DICV and Smile Foundation aim to reverse this trend through preventive care programs and early intervention, particularly for fatigue, lifestyle-related conditions, and musculoskeletal disorders.

Linking Health to Road Safety

Michael Moebius, President and Chief Procurement & Supply Chain Officer at DICV, emphasized that driver health directly impacts road safety, noting that healthier drivers contribute to safer roads for all users.

Santanu Mishra, Co-founder of Smile Foundation, added that the clinic represents a crucial step in closing long-standing gaps in healthcare access for India’s logistics workforce.

DICV manufactures trucks and buses under the BharatBenz brand at its Oragadam plant near Chennai and exports to more than 60 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
