Hyundai Introduces Updated IONIQ 5 in India
Hyundai Motor India Limited has launched the updated IONIQ 5 electric SUV in India at ₹55.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The refreshed model brings a larger battery pack, extended range, and upgrades across design, technology, and safety, strengthening its position in the premium EV segment.
The SUV continues on the E-GMP platform but now receives meaningful enhancements aimed at improving everyday usability, comfort, and efficiency.
Bigger battery delivers longer driving range
The biggest change in the updated IONIQ 5 is the new 84 kWh battery pack. It is ARAI-certified to deliver a driving range of up to 690 km, significantly improving long-distance capability.
This upgrade directly addresses range concerns and makes the electric SUV more suitable for highway and intercity travel.
Design and interior upgrades improve premium appeal
The exterior of the IONIQ 5 has been refreshed with revised front and rear bumpers, new skid plates, redesigned alloy wheels, a new rear spoiler, and updated lighting elements.
Inside, it now features a new 3-spoke leather steering wheel with an illuminated 4-dot design and heating function. The centre console has been redesigned, and the wireless charging pad now includes integrated controls for seat heating and ventilation.
The dual 12.3-inch infotainment and instrument cluster display setup continues to be offered.
New technology and connected features added
The updated model introduces the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit system along with Controller Over-the-Air update capability for software enhancements.
It also supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with Active Sound Design and in-car payment functionality for EV charging. A remote immobilisation feature has been added through Hyundai’s connected car platform for improved security.
Safety features receive key enhancements
The updated IONIQ 5 adds Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist for the rear and Side Parking Distance Warning, improving safety in tight parking situations.
These additions strengthen the SUV’s overall safety package, which is already well regarded in global markets.
Market position and competition
Despite strong global recognition, the IONIQ 5 remains a niche product in India with relatively low sales volumes. It serves more as a technology showcase for Hyundai in the premium EV space.
The updated model competes with electric SUVs such as the Kia EV6, BMW iX1 LWB, BYD Sealion 7, and Volvo EX30 in the luxury EV segment.
