India sends 100 electric buses to Mauritius

India has completed its largest electric bus export by delivering 100 electric buses to Mauritius, marking a major step in clean mobility collaboration between the two nations. The initiative, backed by the government, aims to support sustainable transport while strengthening bilateral ties.

The electric buses were supplied by Switch Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group and a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland. The delivery reflects India’s growing role in the global electric mobility market and highlights its commitment to greener transport solutions.

India Mauritius electric bus deal strengthens clean mobility

The final batch of 90 buses was officially handed over during a high-level engagement between India and Mauritius. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar presented the buses to Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in the presence of officials from both countries.

The buses were supplied through an open tender process managed by Convergence Energy Services Limited and will be operated by the National Transport Corporation in Mauritius. The initiative is part of a government-to-government arrangement, with India providing the buses as a donation.

This India Mauritius electric bus deal is seen as a significant move to modernise public transport in Mauritius while promoting environmentally friendly alternatives.

Switch Mobility electric buses features and global expansion

The buses delivered are Switch EiV12 models, designed for efficient urban transport. Each bus can accommodate up to 45 passengers and is equipped with advanced telematics systems that allow real-time monitoring and improved fleet management.

The buses run on lithium iron phosphate batteries, which are mounted on the floor to improve stability. They also feature a dual gun charging interface, enabling faster charging and smoother depot operations.

Switch Mobility electric buses have already seen wide deployment, with the company reporting over 2,400 electric buses operating globally and more than 2,500 in India. The company has also introduced intercity electric buses for state transport undertakings, including UPSRTC.

This export further supports Switch Mobility’s strategy to expand into international markets while contributing to cleaner transport systems.
