NHAI Builds 12 Km Dehradun Bypass For Economic Corridor

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is developing a 12-km bypass to strengthen connectivity under the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor. The project is designed to reduce traffic pressure inside Dehradun city while improving high-speed road movement for long-distance vehicles. The four-lane, access-controlled greenfield road is expected to streamline travel and reduce congestion significantly.

NHAI Dehradun Bypass Route Alignment And Connectivity Plan

The proposed NHAI Dehradun bypass will start from Jhajhra and connect with the Paonta Sahib–Ballupur stretch of National Highway-7. It will further integrate with the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor near Asharori in Uttarakhand.

This alignment is designed to divert non-city traffic away from Dehradun. Vehicles travelling towards Selaqui, Vikasnagar, Herbertpur, and Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh will be able to bypass the city, reducing congestion on internal urban roads.

NHAI Dehradun Bypass Construction Progress And Cost

The total cost of the NHAI Dehradun bypass project is estimated at around ₹716 crore. According to officials, nearly 44 percent of the construction work has already been completed.

The project is progressing in phases and is expected to be fully completed by April 2027. Once operational, it will serve as a faster and more efficient route for both passenger and commercial vehicles moving across the region.

The NHAI Dehradun bypass is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion within the city by redirecting heavy and through traffic. This will help ease daily traffic jams, especially during peak hours.

A reduction in vehicle movement inside city limits is also likely to lower vehicular pollution levels. Improved traffic flow is expected to enhance overall road conditions and reduce travel delays for commuters.
