Petrol Diesel Demand Rises As Global Tensions Impact Markets

India has witnessed a sharp rise in fuel demand as global tensions linked to the US Iran conflict continue to impact energy markets. Petrol and diesel consumption recorded strong growth, even as retail fuel prices across the country remained largely unchanged.

Petrol diesel demand sees strong growth in India

Fuel consumption data shows a notable increase in demand during the ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. Petrol sales rose by 7.6 percent to 3.78 million tonne, while diesel consumption increased by 8.1 percent to 8.727 million tonne.

Annual fuel consumption trends remain positive

For the full fiscal year, petrol demand climbed 6.5 percent to 42.586 million tonne. Diesel consumption also grew by 3.6 percent, reaching 94.705 million tonne. Meanwhile, aviation turbine fuel demand recorded a modest rise of 2 percent to 9.161 million tonne.

Petrol diesel prices remain steady despite volatility

Despite fluctuations in global crude oil markets, petrol diesel prices in India have remained stable. State run oil marketing companies have chosen not to revise retail prices, aiming to protect consumers from sudden cost increases.

India maintains strong fuel stock position

The government has confirmed that India currently holds sufficient fuel reserves to manage supply disruptions. Authorities stated that the country has adequate stock of crude oil, petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel for more than 60 days.

LNG and LPG reserves also stable

In addition to liquid fuels, India maintains around 50 days of LNG stock and nearly 40 days of LPG supply. These reserves are supported by domestic production and strategic planning to ensure uninterrupted availability.

Government monitors evolving global situation closely

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the situation in West Asia, describing it as uncertain and volatile. He emphasised the importance of preparedness for both escalation and de escalation scenarios.

High level monitoring of fuel security

A group of ministers has been tasked with closely monitoring developments and ensuring that supply chains remain stable despite global disruptions.

US Iran conflict impacts global oil markets

The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran has intensified concerns over global oil supply. A recent incident involving the seizure of an Iranian vessel near the Strait of Hormuz has further escalated tensions.

Oil prices surge amid uncertainty

Global crude prices reacted sharply, with West Texas Intermediate rising by around 7.5 percent to 90.17 dollars per barrel. Brent crude also gained 6.5 percent, reaching 96.27 dollars per barrel.

Conclusion

The rise in petrol diesel demand in India reflects the broader impact of global geopolitical tensions on energy consumption. While international markets remain volatile, stable retail pricing and strong fuel reserves have helped maintain supply security within the country.

As the situation in West Asia continues to evolve, fuel demand and prices will remain closely linked to global developments.
