Switch Mobility deploys electric intercity buses on Mumbai Pune

Switch Mobility has launched its first batch of electric intercity buses for a private operator, marking a key step in expanding electric mobility beyond city limits. The company flagged off 10 EiV12mt electric coaches for Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions, signalling a shift toward cleaner long-distance travel in India.

Switch Mobility electric buses mark intercity expansion

Switch Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group and a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, has entered the private intercity segment with this deployment. The rollout of Switch Mobility electric buses also marks the beginning of Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions’ journey into intercity electric mobility.

The flag-off event was attended by Madhuri Misal, Minister of State for Urban Development, Maharashtra, highlighting the growing policy support for electric transport solutions.

Ganesh Mani, CEO of Switch Mobility, said the move reflects increasing confidence in electric buses for high-demand routes. He emphasised that intercity corridors like Mumbai Pune require high levels of performance, efficiency, and reliability, which electric solutions are now capable of delivering.

EiV12 electric coach features for long distance travel

The EiV12 electric coach has been specifically designed for intercity operations. It comes with 45 pushback seats, offering a comfortable travel experience for passengers on long routes.

The coach delivers a range of over 300 km on a single charge and supports fast charging, making it suitable for high-frequency travel. It is also equipped with advanced safety systems and Switch iON connected technology, enabling real-time monitoring and operational efficiency.

Switch Mobility stated that the EiV12 platform is built to balance sustainability with commercial viability, ensuring operators can benefit while offering a better passenger experience.

Mumbai Pune electric bus rollout gains momentum

The Mumbai Pune electric bus corridor is the first route for this deployment, executed in partnership with Vertelo. The initial rollout includes 10 buses, while the total order stands at 25 electric coaches.

The remaining units are expected to be delivered over the course of the year, further strengthening electric mobility adoption on one of India’s busiest intercity routes.

Prasanna Patwardhan, CMD of Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions, said the move into intercity electric mobility marks a major milestone and introduces a cleaner, more efficient travel option for passengers.
