BEML unveils India first 35 ton electric dump truck

BEML Limited has unveiled India’s first indigenous 35 ton electric dump truck at its Mysuru complex, marking a major milestone in sustainable mining equipment. The launch reflects India’s push toward cleaner, self-reliant industrial solutions and advanced engineering capabilities.

The vehicle was flagged off by Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML, in the presence of senior officials and industry stakeholders.

BEML electric dump truck drives sustainable mining solutions

The BEML electric dump truck has been developed to deliver high productivity while eliminating tailpipe emissions. Designed to meet global standards, it aligns with India’s carbon reduction goals and ESG commitments.

Built for heavy duty mining operations

The truck offers a payload capacity of 35 tons and a gross vehicle weight of around 60 tons. It is engineered to handle demanding mining conditions, including frequent stop-start duty cycles.

High efficiency electric powertrain

Powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, the truck achieves energy efficiency of 85 to 90 percent. This makes it significantly more efficient than conventional diesel-powered dump trucks.

Electric dump truck features advanced battery and safety systems

The electric dump truck integrates modern battery and safety technologies to ensure reliable performance in harsh environments.

Advanced battery and thermal management

It is equipped with a 300 kWh lithium-ion battery supported by a Battery Thermal Management System with liquid cooling. This helps maintain optimal temperature and extends battery life.

Regenerative braking and fast charging

A Regenerative Braking System enables energy recovery during operations, especially on downhill routes. The truck supports fast charging, reaching 0 to 80 percent in about 60 to 90 minutes.

Enhanced safety and durability features

The vehicle includes IP67 and IP68 rated electrical systems along with integrated fire protection mechanisms, ensuring safe and durable operation in mining conditions.

Indigenous electric dump truck offers cost and efficiency gains

The indigenous electric dump truck delivers strong economic benefits alongside environmental advantages.

Lower operating and energy costs

Operators can achieve energy savings of up to 60 to 70 percent and reduce overall operating costs by 40 to 60 percent compared to diesel alternatives.

Reduced maintenance and quick payback

With fewer mechanical components, maintenance requirements are lower. Depending on usage, the truck offers a payback period of one to two years.

Charging infrastructure support

BEML also provides scalable charging infrastructure solutions to ensure uninterrupted operations across mining sites.

Conclusion

The BEML electric dump truck marks a significant advancement in India’s mining and construction equipment sector. Combining zero emission technology with high efficiency and cost savings, it positions BEML as a leader in sustainable industrial innovation while supporting the country’s vision of cleaner growth and self-reliance.
