Energy In Motion secures order for 66 electric trucks
EIM, the official distributor of Foton’s electric heavy-duty commercial vehicles in India, will supply 66 battery-swappable 55-tonne e-tractors, branded as Ashwa, to Transvolt Mobility. The trucks will operate at Kandla Port in Gandhidham, Gujarat, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port-Nava Sheva in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, marking Transvolt’s first electric truck deployment in port operations.
Key Highlights of the Ashwa Deployment
- Fleet Size: 66 battery-swappable electric trucks
- Model: Ashwa, rebadged Foton eAuman
- Battery: 282 kWh LFP pack, swappable in under seven minutes
- Environmental Impact: Expected to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 3,300 tonnes annually
- Services: EIM will provide battery swapping and charging support
EIM’s Battery Swapping Network
Between January and December 2025, EIM operated two battery swapping stations, recording 4,122 swaps. The company plans to expand its network with eight additional stations by the end of this month, supporting faster turnaround for heavy commercial EV operations.
Narendra Murkumbi, MD of EIM and Vice Chairman of Ravindra Energy, stated, “This order validates our approach to solving the EV challenge in heavy commercial vehicles by selling vehicles without batteries while providing a charging service with swappable packs.”
Strategic Plans and Investments
Last year, EIM secured exclusive rights to assemble, market, and distribute Foton commercial vehicles over 18 tonnes in India for six years. The company has announced plans to set up an electric truck manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra, with an investment of ₹10.65 billion (≈€97 million), although the project timeline is yet to be disclosed.
This deployment of Ashwa EV trucks underscores India’s growing adoption of battery-electric vehicles in logistics and port operations, combining sustainability with operational efficiency.
