Ultraviolette Automotive Expands Manufacturing Footprint in Karnataka

Electric vehicle manufacturer Ultraviolette Automotive has formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Karnataka, signalling a major expansion of its manufacturing operations in the state. The announcement came during the ‘Invest Karnataka’ Conclave in Bengaluru, in the presence of Shri M. B. Patil, Minister for Large & Medium Industries, Karnataka. The five-year expansion plan aims to boost production capacity, generate employment, and strengthen the state’s electric mobility ecosystem.

Two-Phase Expansion Plan

Phase One: Enhancement of Existing Facility

Ultraviolette plans to invest ₹200 crore to increase production capacity at its current facility in Karnataka. This phase will focus on modernising operations and implementing advanced manufacturing processes to meet growing domestic demand for electric vehicles.

Phase Two: Construction of New Manufacturing Plant

The second phase involves the development of a new plant designed to produce up to 150,000 electric vehicles annually. This expansion is expected to deepen local supply chains and foster innovation within the EV sector, reinforcing India’s position as a hub for clean mobility solutions.

Government Support and Incentives

Production-Linked Incentives and Administrative Facilitation

As part of the MoU, the Karnataka government has proposed Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) support and fast-track approvals to expedite the project. These measures aim to attract high-value investment and align with the state’s broader policy framework to promote sustainable and clean technology manufacturing.

Narayan Subramaniam, CEO and Co-founder, noted that Karnataka’s policy environment and thriving EV ecosystem make it an ideal location for expansion. CTO Niraj Rajmohan highlighted the state’s engineering talent and proximity to industrial hubs as critical factors in the decision.

Current Operations and Future Plans

Founded in Bengaluru in 2016, Ultraviolette currently manufactures the F77 performance motorcycle and X-47 Crossover. The company operates more than 40 experience centres across India, with plans to reach 100 cities by the end of 2026.

International Expansion and Investor Support

Ultraviolette has expanded its footprint internationally, with motorcycles present in 12 European countries and plans to enter Asia and Latin America. Its investors include Lingotto, TDK Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Zoho Corporation, TVS Motors, and Speciale Invest.
