Noida International Airport Phase I to be Inaugurated by PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Phase I of the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, on March 28, marking a major milestone in strengthening aviation infrastructure in the National Capital Region. The development is expected to significantly ease congestion and support growing air travel demand.
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the airport site, conduct a walkthrough of the terminal building, and address a public gathering.
Noida International Airport Phase I Boosts NCR Capacity
The first phase of the Noida International Airport has been developed with an investment of around Rs 11,200 crore under a public-private partnership model. Initially, the airport will handle 12 million passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 70 million passengers in the coming years.
The airport includes a 3,900-metre runway designed to handle wide-body aircraft. It is equipped with advanced instrument landing systems and airfield lighting, ensuring all-weather, round-the-clock operations.
Located along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is being developed as a multi-modal transport hub with connectivity through road, rail, metro and regional transit systems. This is expected to improve both passenger and cargo movement across the region.
Cargo Hub and Connectivity Plans at Noida International Airport
A major feature of the Noida International Airport is its integrated cargo infrastructure. The facility includes a multi-modal cargo hub, logistics zones and a cargo terminal. It is designed to handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually in the initial phase, with the potential to scale up to around 18 lakh metric tonnes.
Additionally, a 40-acre maintenance, repair and overhaul facility is planned, which will support aircraft servicing and operational efficiency.
The airport will function as the second international airport serving the Delhi NCR, alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport. Both airports are expected to operate in coordination to reduce congestion and expand overall passenger handling capacity.
The project also includes provisions for net-zero emissions operations, with energy-efficient systems and environmental measures incorporated into its design.
