TVS Supply Chain Solutions Expands Caterpillar Operations in India

TVS Supply Chain Solutions (TVS SCS) has announced a major initiative to strengthen Caterpillar’s global supply chains from India. The company has established a 40,000 sq ft warehousing facility at the Free Trade and Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) in Mannur Village, roughly 30 kilometers from Chennai. This strategic facility is designed to manage parts procurement from multiple countries and support Caterpillar’s manufacturing operations across its global network.

Strategically located along the Chennai–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, the FTWZ facility offers strong connectivity to Chennai, Ennore, and Kamarajar ports, which together handle nearly 20 percent of India’s container traffic. The Chennai facility reinforces the ‘Make in India for the World’ initiative, positioning Caterpillar’s operations in India as a scalable and resilient hub within its global supply chain. With approximately 4,000 pallet positions, the warehouse enables optimised lead times, reduced landed costs, and faster responses to shifting global demand and supply requirements.

Enhancing Supply Chain Resilience and Operational Efficiency

Ravi Viswanathan, Managing Director of TVS SCS, highlighted the significance of the new facility in strengthening supply chain resilience amid global trade volatility. He noted that combining the FTWZ model with end-to-end warehousing capabilities allows faster and more efficient global supply chain movements. “Our long-standing partnership with Caterpillar demonstrates their trust in TVS SCS to deliver innovative, scalable, and future-ready supply chain solutions,” he added.

Ramesh Muthuraman, Director of Operations at Caterpillar India, emphasised the flexibility the FTWZ facility brings to their sourcing strategy. He noted that TVS SCS’s expertise in managing complex, multi-country supply chains enables Caterpillar to navigate global trade conditions more effectively. Beyond this facility, TVS SCS also manages Caterpillar’s external warehouse operations in Hosur and oversees in-plant warehousing, deploying trained personnel to support manufacturing operations.

Over the past five years, the partnership between TVS SCS and Caterpillar has been marked by operational excellence and trust. The new Chennai FTWZ facility further strengthens their collaborative efforts, ensuring that Caterpillar’s supply chains remain resilient, agile, and prepared to meet future global demands.
