Piaggio Secures 100-Unit Apé Xtra Bada 700 Order
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. (PVPL) has announced a landmark order of more than 100 units of its newly launched Apé Xtra Bada 700 from HeidelbergCement India Limited. The diesel cargo three-wheelers are set to operate across 53 districts spanning Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar, marking one of the largest fleet commitments for the model since its introduction.
Apé Xtra Bada 700: A Competitive Edge
Piaggio has positioned the Apé Xtra Bada 700 to rival entry-level four-wheeler small commercial vehicles (SCVs). By combining a redesigned chassis, updated suspension, and a new 700 DI diesel engine, the vehicle delivers a payload capacity of 750 kg—the highest in the diesel cargo three-wheeler segment.
Industry-First Cargo Deck
The Apé Xtra Bada 700 features a seven-foot-long cargo deck, a specification unique in the segment. This makes the vehicle suitable for sectors traditionally reliant on four-wheeled light commercial vehicles, such as cement and construction, without compromising on carrying capacity.
Advanced Features for Efficient Operations
The new platform also includes 12-inch radial tyres, a 3.5-inch digital instrument cluster, and an optional rear parking sensor. The driver cabin is ergonomically designed for extended use, while Piaggio provides a five-year industry warranty, enhancing confidence for fleet operators.
Focus on Total Cost of Ownership
Amit Sagar, Executive Vice President for CV Domestic Business and Retail Finance at PVPL, stated that the order from HeidelbergCement validates the vehicle’s capabilities. Piaggio aims to offer improved total cost of ownership, combining high payload with potentially lower operating costs compared to four-wheeled SCVs.
Deployment Across Three States
The vehicles will serve 53 districts across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar, primarily supporting last-mile distribution in the cement and construction sector. Piaggio’s strategy targets bridging the gap between three-wheelers and small commercial four-wheelers, providing fleet owners with a practical and cost-effective solution.
Piaggio’s Manufacturing Capabilities
PVPL has been operating in India since 1999 and produces diesel, petrol, CNG, LPG, and electric three-wheelers. Its Baramati plant in Maharashtra has an annual capacity of over 330,000 commercial vehicles and 180,000 two-wheelers, with exports to more than 50 countries.
Strong Market Presence
The Apé Xtra Bada 700 order highlights Piaggio’s continued commitment to innovation in the three-wheeler segment, catering to sectors demanding high payloads and operational efficiency.
Conclusion
The 100-unit order from HeidelbergCement India underscores the potential of the Apé Xtra Bada 700 to compete with small commercial four-wheelers. With industry-first features, high payload capacity, and operational efficiency, Piaggio aims to strengthen its presence in the diesel cargo three-wheeler market across India.
