3 Wheeler Sales January 2026 Rise 30% YoY, Bajaj Auto Leads Market
The Indian three-wheeler market showed remarkable growth in January 2026, with domestic sales, production, and exports all posting strong increases. According to the latest report by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, total domestic sales reached 75,725 units, up from 58,167 units in January 2025. This represents a 30.18 percent year-on-year growth, indicating strong demand in both urban and semi-urban markets.
Leading brands such as Bajaj Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra, Piaggio Vehicles, TVS Motor Company, Atul Auto, Montra Electric, Baxy, and EKA were highlighted in the report, showcasing competitive performance across segments.
Production Rises 33 Percent in January 2026
Three-wheeler production in India reached 1,20,291 units in January 2026, compared to 90,305 units in the same month last year. This reflects a 33.2 percent year-on-year increase. Between April and January of the current fiscal year, cumulative production reached 10,75,761 units, compared to 8,79,549 units in the same period of the previous year.
Bajaj Auto Leads Output
Bajaj Auto remained the production leader, manufacturing 72,903 units in January 2026, up from 56,295 units last year. Mahindra & Mahindra produced 13,484 units, a noticeable increase over 10,963 units in January 2025. TVS Motor Company also increased output significantly to 19,831 units from 10,365 units last year. Piaggio Vehicles manufactured 9,876 units, while smaller brands produced lower volumes: Atul Auto 3,470 units, Montra Electric 460 units, Baxy 214 units, and EKA 53 units.
Effective Inventory Management
The ratio of production to sales indicates that most manufacturers maintained efficient inventory levels. Mahindra & Mahindra and Piaggio Vehicles, in particular, balanced production and sales to meet domestic demand without excessive stockpiling. Atul Auto’s controlled production also ensured steady sales performance.
Domestic Sales Performance by Brand
Domestic sales reached 75,725 units in January 2026, demonstrating strong market growth. Bajaj Auto led domestic sales with 47,248 units, while Mahindra & Mahindra sold 9,566 units. Piaggio Vehicles recorded 8,912 units, Atul Auto sold 2,942 units, Montra Electric 587 units, Baxy 223 units, and EKA 86 units.
Bajaj Auto Maintains Market Leadership
Bajaj Auto’s strong domestic presence is driven by consistent demand for its three-wheeler models across India. The company’s market leadership was further reinforced by its production scale, enabling it to capture a majority share of the expanding segment.
Export Sales Jump Over 50 Percent
Exports also showed impressive growth, reaching 36,879 units in January 2026 compared to 23,859 units in January 2025. This represents a 54.57 percent year-on-year increase. Bajaj Auto led the export market with 22,949 units shipped overseas, followed by TVS Motor Company with 11,410 units. Piaggio Vehicles, Atul Auto, and Mahindra & Mahindra exported 1,158, 664, and 136 units respectively.
Global Demand Strengthens Indian Three-Wheeler Market
The increase in export volumes reflects rising international demand for Indian three-wheelers. Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company, in particular, have strengthened their global footprint, highlighting India’s growing competitiveness in this sector.
