Farrukhabad Link Expressway to Halve Travel Time in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh is set to see a major transformation in regional connectivity with the development of the 125-km-long Farrukhabad Link Expressway. This new corridor will connect the Ganga Expressway with the Agra Expressway, significantly reducing travel time for commuters. Currently, journeys from the northern and central parts of the state to Agra take more than eight hours. With the new expressway, travel time is expected to be reduced by nearly 50 percent, offering a faster and more efficient route.
Key Highlights of the Project
- Strategic Connector Between Major Highways:
- The expressway will serve as a vital link between two of Uttar Pradesh’s major transportation corridors: the Ganga Expressway and the Agra Expressway.
- It will play a crucial role in improving regional mobility, facilitating smoother movement of goods and passengers, and boosting economic activity in connected districts.
- Districts Gaining Direct Access:
- The expressway will provide direct connectivity to Agra for districts including Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Pilibhit, Badaun, and Lakhimpur Kheri.
- Currently, travellers from these areas rely on longer routes via Kaimganj in Farrukhabad or through Etah, making journeys time-consuming. The new route will offer a much faster and convenient alternative.
- Route Alignment and Villages Covered:
- The expressway will pass through key regions in Hardoi and Farrukhabad districts.
- Villages along the alignment include Rawatpur, Rupapur, Ramapur Bajheda, Bhudiya Raghunathpur, Hullapur, and Naugawan (Farrukhabad border).
- The corridor will also link Etawah, Kannauj, Mainpuri, and Farrukhabad with Shahjahanpur via Hardoi, integrating multiple regions and improving intra-state connectivity.
- Land Acquisition and Progress:
- The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is executing the project and acquiring 36 hectares of land from 792 farmers.
- Sale deeds for 45 farmers have been completed. Agreements for the remaining land are in progress, with completion targeted by 28 February.
- This acquisition is a key step to ensure timely construction and smooth implementation of the project.
- Construction Timeline and Interchange Plan:
- Construction is scheduled to begin once land formalities are complete and instalment payments are released.
- The expressway will start near Kudrail village in Takha, Etawah, close to the Agra Expressway, and extend to Kausiya village in Hardoi, where it will connect with the Ganga Expressway.
- A major interchange is planned near Rupapur to provide direct access to Rawatpur village, enhancing the connectivity network for surrounding regions.
Impact on Regional Connectivity
- The expressway will reduce travel time significantly, improving efficiency for daily commuters, transporters, and tourists travelling to Agra and surrounding areas.
- Improved connectivity is expected to boost economic development, facilitate trade, and open up opportunities for industrial growth along the corridor.
- Residents of Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, and neighbouring districts will enjoy easier access to key cities, educational hubs, and healthcare facilities.
With this ambitious infrastructure project, Uttar Pradesh is moving closer to modernising its transport network, enhancing regional accessibility, and creating smoother, faster, and safer travel for its residents.
