Major Civic and Healthcare Upgrades Begin in Krishnagar
Krishnagar Municipality has initiated construction on 20 roads worth Rs 41.7 million under the state-funded Pathashree-IV scheme, marking one of the town’s largest single-phase road projects in recent years.
The project aims to improve last-mile connectivity for residents and enhance urban infrastructure across 15 wards. Blacktop and cement concrete surfacing will be used to ensure durability and smooth travel. Out of 27 roads sanctioned, three had already begun construction earlier, with the current phase expanding works to 20 roads.
Inauguration Attended by Top Officials
The launch event was attended by Minister Ujjal Biswas, District Magistrate Aneesh Dasgupta, and municipal administrator Sharadwati Chowdhury, along with senior officials from the Municipal Engineering Directorate (MED) and local residents. Officials highlighted that the Pathashree-IV roads are fully funded by the state government and emphasized the administration’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure.
New Urban Health and Wellness Centres
Alongside the road projects, construction began on two Urban Health and Wellness Centres aimed at strengthening primary healthcare in densely populated areas.
- Ward 1: Yogiraj Shyamacharan Lahiri Urban Health Centre
- Ward 24: Dishari Urban Health Centre
These centres are expected to improve healthcare access for residents, offering essential services within their local communities and reducing the need to travel long distances for primary care.
MED to Oversee Implementation
The Municipal Engineering Directorate will oversee all technical aspects of the Pathashree-IV works, ensuring quality and timely completion. Officials stated that these projects demonstrate visible urban transformation through coordinated administration and sustained government investment in infrastructure and services.
With these developments, Krishnagar residents can look forward to better roads and improved healthcare services, reflecting a strong push towards modernising urban amenities and enhancing quality of life.
