Mahindra Secures Record Export Order for Indonesia
Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra has announced its largest-ever export order, securing a deal to supply 35,000 Scorpio Pik Up vehicles to Indonesia in 2026. The units will be delivered to Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, a state-owned enterprise, as part of the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDKMP) Project, a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening rural supply chains and improving food security.
The 35,000-unit order exceeds Mahindra’s total exports in the previous fiscal year, underlining the growing international footprint of the company’s utility vehicle segment.
Supporting Indonesia’s Agricultural Cooperatives
The Scorpio Pik Up units will primarily support cooperative networks across Indonesia, helping transport agricultural produce from farms to local collection points and onward to markets. The vehicles are expected to enhance operational efficiency, reduce logistical bottlenecks, and support the government’s broader food security objectives.
Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, emphasized the importance of the partnership. “The Scorpio Pik Ups are engineered to perform in tough conditions while keeping operating costs to a minimum,” he said, highlighting the vehicles’ suitability for rural and semi-urban terrains.
Designed for Challenging Terrain
Manufactured at Mahindra’s Nashik plant, the Scorpio Pik Up is designed to handle a variety of challenging road conditions, including rural tracks, uneven farm paths, and high-traffic village routes. The vehicles will be deployed in dual roles—transporting produce from farms to cooperative collection points and facilitating intra-cooperative goods movement.
Boosting Mahindra’s Global Presence
The export deal reflects a major expansion of Mahindra’s international operations. Established in 1945, the Mahindra Group now operates in over 100 countries, employs more than 324,000 people, and maintains leadership in farm equipment and utility vehicles worldwide.
By delivering these units, Mahindra aims not only to strengthen its global business presence but also to contribute to the modernization of rural transport infrastructure in emerging markets.
Deliveries and Implementation
The 35,000 Scorpio Pik Up vehicles will be delivered progressively throughout 2026. This phased rollout aligns with Indonesia’s agricultural calendar, ensuring that cooperatives receive vehicles in time for peak harvesting and distribution periods.
Through this landmark deal, Mahindra demonstrates its capability to support large-scale international projects that combine robust vehicle engineering with targeted socio-economic impact, particularly in rural development and food logistics.
