East Godavari to Induct 100 Electric Buses

The new electric fleet will operate on key routes across the district, offering commuters a cleaner and quieter alternative to traditional diesel-powered buses. Officials said the initiative aims not only to reduce vehicular pollution but also to improve accessibility to modern public transport services in both urban and semi-urban areas.

Speaking during the Republic Day celebrations, the collector emphasised that the introduction of electric buses is in line with Andhra Pradesh’s broader strategy for environmentally responsible development and technology-driven mobility. “This rollout demonstrates our commitment to sustainable growth while providing residents with safe, reliable, and modern public transport,” she said.

The remaining 50 electric buses are expected to be inducted in subsequent phases, contingent on operational readiness and supporting infrastructure such as charging stations. Authorities are coordinating to ensure seamless integration of the new fleet into existing routes.

The launch of these electric buses is part of wider developmental initiatives across the five Godavari districts. Programs like the Stree Shakti free bus travel scheme have already benefited approximately 1.30 lakh women in the district, reflecting the increasing reliance on public transport services.

Officials believe that the electric bus rollout will complement these ongoing efforts and position East Godavari as a leader in Andhra Pradesh’s transition toward cleaner, technology-enabled transport solutions. With a focus on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable urban mobility, the district is expected to set an example for other regions in the state.

By combining environmental responsibility with modern commuting options, East Godavari’s electric bus initiative underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing quality of life for its residents while addressing the challenges of urbanisation and pollution.

East Godavari district will introduce 100 electric buses, with 50 arriving this year, boosting sustainable public transport and reducing emissions.
