Aptiv Gen 6 ADAS Powers India Commercial Vehicles
Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV) has announced its first collaboration with an Indian commercial vehicle (CV) OEM to equip future trucks and buses with its Gen 6 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). This partnership aligns with India’s upcoming 2027 regulations, which will mandate advanced safety features including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings, blind spot detection, and pedestrian and obstacle alerts.
The move comes as Indian CV manufacturers prepare to integrate safety technologies across diverse vehicle types and powertrains while addressing larger blind spots and ensuring performance in demanding road conditions. Commercial vehicles face unique challenges, including heavier loads, longer operating hours, and exposure to high vibration and extreme terrains, requiring stricter validation than passenger cars.
“We are ready to play a leading role in helping OEMs in India meet demanding real-world conditions by introducing advanced, cost-effective safety solutions tested and tailored to local needs,” said Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President, Intelligent Systems, Aptiv. He added that Aptiv’s global ADAS technology, already deployed in millions of vehicles across Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific, has been adapted intelligently for India’s commercial vehicle segment.
The Gen 6 ADAS platform features a uni-voltage architecture and will scale across 14 CV models and more than 30 variants for the OEM. Aptiv’s Gen 8 radar and Gen 7 smart camera, combined with STRADVISION’s AI-based vision technology, are designed specifically for Indian road conditions, capable of detecting three-wheelers, large animals, pedestrians, cyclists, and road workers.
Aptiv’s integrated solution reduces system complexity while delivering high performance. Its modular ADAS software, in use on over 40 million vehicles globally, supports over-the-air updates through the LINC™ Software Platform and VxWorks® RTOS, allowing continuous feature enhancements and performance improvements.
The partnership reflects Aptiv’s commitment to India’s fast-growing mobility ecosystem. Investments include the opening of a technical center in Chennai in 2025 and expansion of its advanced manufacturing facility in Chennai in 2024. Aptiv India now employs 2,500 engineers and 13,000 employees across 7 manufacturing sites, 4 technical centers, and 1 tooling center, delivering production-ready, software-led solutions for OEMs.
Arun Devaraj, Vice President and Managing Director, Intelligent Systems, Aptiv Asia Pacific (Non-China), emphasized that the collaboration supports regulatory compliance, optimized vehicle performance, and a safer mobility landscape in India.
With the Gen 6 ADAS rollout, Aptiv strengthens its position in India’s commercial vehicle segment, delivering automated, electrified, and digitalized safety solutions tailored for one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
