Scania Expands India Footprint Through Strategic Partnership with GMMCO

In a major move to strengthen its operations in India, Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania Commercial Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd. has appointed GMMCO Limited, part of the C.K. Birla Group, as its new authorized dealer partner. The partnership is aimed at deepening Scania’s presence across Northern, Eastern, and Central India, signaling a pivotal change in the company’s business strategy.

The announcement, made on October 30, 2025, marks Scania’s transition from a direct sales model to a dealer-driven distribution approach, a shift designed to enhance its regional coverage and customer engagement. With this change, GMMCO will oversee Scania’s sales and service operations in the newly designated territories, while the brand’s existing partner, PPS Motors, will continue managing operations in Southern and Western India.

According to Scania, this realignment is part of its broader goal to streamline operations and focus on product innovation, planning, and lead generation. The new structure empowers dealers to independently manage all key business functions, including sales, service, invoicing, documentation, aftermarket support, and inventory management, ensuring faster response times and improved customer satisfaction.

“The appointment of GMMCO marks an important step in Scania’s India growth journey,” said Silvio Munhoz, Managing Director of Scania Commercial Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd. He emphasized that GMMCO’s strong service network and extensive market presence made it a natural choice for this strategic collaboration.

Echoing the sentiment, Chandrashekar V, Managing Director and CEO of GMMCO Ltd., expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that GMMCO’s robust infrastructure and service capabilities across multiple industries would drive Scania’s next phase of expansion in India.

The partnership reflects Scania’s global vision of offering integrated transport solutions rather than focusing solely on vehicle sales. This includes customized product applications, tailored service packages, financial solutions, and connected services for performance optimization.

Scania first entered the Indian market in 2007, catering primarily to the mining and construction sectors. Its fully-owned Indian subsidiary was established in 2011, with an assembly facility located near Bangalore. Meanwhile, GMMCO, founded in 1967, is one of India’s leading providers of integrated solutions in infrastructure, mining, energy, and transportation, boasting annual revenues of over ₹5,000 crore.

The partnership between Scania and GMMCO is expected to accelerate the company’s growth trajectory and reinforce its commitment to providing sustainable and efficient transport solutions across India.
