KSRTC to Launch Airline-Style ‘Business Class’ Bus Service with Onboard Hostess and Gourmet Meals

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is gearing up to redefine road travel luxury with its upcoming ‘airline-model’ business class bus service. Inspired by the comfort of premium air travel, these custom-designed buses will feature reclining seats, entertainment screens, and even an onboard hostess serving freshly prepared meals.

The premium service will debut after the completion of the NH 66 widening works, connecting Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam in record time — just about four hours, or even three and a half hours under optimal conditions.

Luxury on Wheels

Each of the new 25-seater luxury buses will come equipped with air suspension systems for a smooth, turbulence-free ride. KSRTC officials revealed that discussions are underway with Vietnamese and Chinese manufacturers to source electronically operated reclining seats, mirroring the comfort and design of airline business-class cabins.

To further elevate the passenger experience, every seat will feature a smart TV with headphones, enabling travelers to stream personal Android content or enjoy curated entertainment, such as songs and comedy clips from KSRTC’s own selection.

In-Bus Dining Experience

Taking inspiration straight from the skies, KSRTC will introduce in-bus food service managed by a trained hostess. A small onboard pantry equipped with a microwave will ensure that passengers who pre-order or buy meals during the journey receive hot, freshly served food. By keeping meals optional, the corporation aims to maintain competitive fares while still offering a luxurious experience.

Faster, Non-Stop Express Routes

The service will operate as a non-stop express line, bypassing conventional bus stations to save time. Instead, the buses will stop only at designated hotels or restrooms for passenger convenience. If unfilled seats are available, pickups may occur at strategic points like Kollam or Alappuzha bypasses, ensuring flexibility without compromising speed.

The morning bus will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 6 AM, reaching Ernakulam by 10 AM, while a simultaneous return trip will run from Ernakulam. As NH work progresses, the route will be extended to Thrissur, with an evening service departing at 3:30 PM and arriving in Thiruvananthapuram by 9:30 PM.

Aiming for High-End Commuters

KSRTC’s business class buses are designed to attract professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and government officials — encouraging them to choose public transport over private cars. The initiative is also expected to challenge premium trains like the Janshatabdi Express, offering a faster, more comfortable, and equally reliable alternative.

With this initiative, KSRTC isn’t just improving bus travel — it’s bringing the luxury of the skies to the roads of Kerala.
