Ashok Leyland Secures Major TNSTU Contract for 1,937 Buses
In a significant boost to its public transport portfolio, Ashok Leyland has clinched a large-scale order for 1,937 buses from the Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings (TNSTU). The deal marks another milestone in the company’s enduring association with Tamil Nadu’s transport sector.
The newly announced order spans a combination of fully built and chassis models designed for multiple applications, including town, mofussil, and State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) routes. Each vehicle will be based on Ashok Leyland’s advanced AIS 153-compliant platform, aligning with the latest national safety and performance regulations.
Reaffirming its leadership in the commercial vehicle space, the company noted that it has already delivered over 21,000 buses to TNSTU over the years—cementing its role as a trusted mobility partner for the state.
Speaking on the development, Madhavi Deshmukh, National Sales Head – MHCV at Ashok Leyland, said the fresh order highlights the long-standing confidence the state transport department places in the brand. “Tamil Nadu remains a key market for us. This order reiterates our commitment to delivering reliable, efficient, and technology-driven mobility solutions,” she added.
The latest deal is expected to further strengthen Ashok Leyland’s market presence in southern India while supporting the modernization of the state’s public transportation network.
Following the announcement, Ashok Leyland’s shares saw a positive uptick of 1.29%, trading at ₹137.40 apiece on the BSE.
