Bobcat Expands Mini Excavator Lineup with Compact E17 and Upgraded E20 Models

Bobcat has unveiled two next-generation mini excavators, designed to combine high power with exceptional maneuverability in confined spaces. The new E17 and upgraded E20 offer contractors the ability to work efficiently in tight job sites without compromising on lifting or digging capacity.

Built for Tight Spaces, Ready for Big Jobs

The E17, weighing 1.7 tonnes, is a new entry aimed at both professionals and less-experienced operators. It offers premium features at an accessible price point, making it ideal for residential and light commercial work. The E20, at 1.9 tonnes, represents the next generation of Bobcat’s compact excavators, offering 24% more arm digging force and 26% higher lift capacity than its predecessor, perfect for contractors who need more muscle in a small footprint.

Both models feature a zero-tailswing design and an in-track swing frame, which allows operators to work next to walls or obstacles with minimal clearance. The undercarriage can hydraulically retract from 53.5 inches to 38.6 inches, and the dozer blade folds to the same narrower width, enabling operation in tight passages and narrow entryways.

Smooth Hydraulics and Refined Controls

Both excavators come with a closed-center, load-sensing hydraulic system, ensuring precise, smooth operation. Fingertip controls, an automatic slew brake, and under-boom LED lighting improve handling and visibility. Operators can use a variety of attachments such as grading and trenching buckets, augers, and hydraulic or nitrogen breakers. Auxiliary hydraulic flow reaches 7.9 gallons per minute at 2,611 psi, allowing versatile tool operation.

Maintenance is simplified with reinforced service covers, improved tie-down and lift points, and durable tracks, helping ensure long-term reliability. Both the E17 and E20 are expected to reach dealers in November 2025.

E17: Compact Efficiency with Premium Features

Powered by a 15-horsepower diesel engine, the E17 can lift up to 807 pounds and has a bucket breakout force of 3,271 pounds. Its digging depth extends to almost 7.3 feet, while the reach at ground level is just over 12.9 feet, and the maximum dump height is nearly 8.2 feet. The machine comes standard with a FOPS/ROPS canopy, a flat floor for comfort, wide steps for easy entry, and LED lighting. It supports a pin-on attachment system, with an optional mechanical pin grabber and hydraulic clamp for added flexibility.

E20: Enhanced Power and Comfort for Demanding Jobs

The E20 also runs on a 15-horsepower diesel engine but delivers a lift capacity of 1,098 pounds and a bucket breakout force of 4,121 pounds. Its digging depth exceeds 8.3 feet, while the reach at ground level is about 14 feet, and the maximum dump height reaches 9.2 feet. Available with either a standard canopy or an optional enclosed cab with heating, auto-idle, auto-shift travel, and 3D grab handles, the E20 prioritizes operator comfort. Additional features include a long arm and blade for extended reach and grading, blade float, and precise joystick controls for smoother operation.

Compact Machines, Modern Capabilities

These new excavators demonstrate Bobcat’s commitment to blending compact size with powerful performance. The E17’s agility and affordability suit smaller projects and urban job sites, while the E20’s enhanced strength and comfort make it ideal for more demanding commercial work. With both models, operators gain versatility, efficiency, and precision—key qualities for modern construction and landscaping jobs.
