VinFast Unveils EB 8 and EB 12 Electric Buses at Busworld Brussels 2025
Vietnamese automaker VinFast has officially entered the European commercial vehicle segment with the debut of its EB 8 and EB 12 electric city buses at Busworld Brussels 2025 (October 4–9). The move marks a significant expansion for the company, which has already established a strong foothold in Vietnam’s electric mobility sector and now aims to make a mark in Europe’s competitive public transport landscape.
VinFast Expands from Cars to Buses in Europe
VinFast, best known in Europe for its VF 6 and VF 8 electric SUVs, has been operating electric buses domestically for over four years. The introduction of the EB series signals its transition from passenger car manufacturing to public transport solutions.
At Busworld, the company presented two models — the EB 12, a 12.11-metre city bus, and the EB 8, a midibus measuring 8.61 metres. Both models are built in accordance with European UNECE and CE regulations and are designed to cater to urban transit needs across European cities. Initially, only the EB 12 will be available for order, with deliveries expected to commence in 2026.
EB 12: Long-Range Electric City Bus
The larger EB 12 is a low-floor electric bus with a gross vehicle weight of 19.2 tonnes and a wheelbase of 5.9 metres. It accommodates up to 90 passengers (35 seated, 54 standing, and 1 wheelchair space) and can be customised to meet operator requirements.
The EB 12 runs on two wheel hub motors, each producing 125 kW, giving the bus a combined output of 250 kW and a top speed of 80 km/h. It is powered by a 422 kWh LFP battery pack supplied by industry leaders CATL and Gotion, offering an impressive range of over 400 km (SORT 2 test cycle).
For charging, the bus supports DC fast charging up to 140 kW, ensuring minimal downtime for fleet operations. Additional features include dual-zone climate control with a heat pump, air suspension on both axles, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), LED ambient lighting, 26 USB ports, and a 360-degree surveillance system for passenger safety.
EB 8: Compact Yet Powerful
The EB 8 midibus is designed for routes requiring smaller capacity and agile operation. Measuring 8.61 metres in length, it can transport up to 60 passengers (24 seated, 35 standing, and 1 wheelchair space). Unlike the EB 12, it features a central electric motor rated at 200 kW and draws power from a 359 kWh battery, delivering a range of around 290 km (SORT 1 test).
It supports 120 kW DC fast charging, making it suitable for short-turnaround urban operations. VinFast has equipped the EB 8 with ADAS features, air suspension, single-zone automatic climate control, and a standard electric wheelchair ramp, underlining its accessibility and inclusivity.
Warranty and After-Sales Commitment
VinFast is backing both models with a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty, covering the entire vehicle. The battery and anti-corrosion body protection are also guaranteed for up to eight years, with no mileage restrictions. This extended coverage aims to build operator confidence in the new brand as it enters established European markets.
A Step Toward European Market Integration
At Busworld, VinFast also unveiled its European public transport strategy, which revolves around building partnerships with regional suppliers and transport specialists. The company aims to establish a distribution network across key European markets, including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Baltic states.
Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of Vingroup and Chairwoman of VinFast, emphasized the company’s broader vision:
“VinFast was founded with the aspiration of democratizing electric mobility. Our comprehensive product ecosystem — from personal vehicles to buses — positions us to collaborate globally. We believe our modern, high-performance electric buses will be a natural fit for sustainable public transport systems worldwide.”
Shaping a Greener Mobility Future
The unveiling of the EB series marks VinFast’s official entry into Europe’s zero-emission transport market — a space dominated by players like Mercedes-Benz, Solaris, and BYD. However, with competitive specifications, strong battery technology, and a sustainability-focused strategy, VinFast appears poised to carve a niche in the continent’s electrified urban transport ecosystem.
As Europe pushes toward its 2030 emissions goals, VinFast’s EB 8 and EB 12 could serve as crucial additions to the clean fleet revolution — combining Vietnamese innovation with European standards of safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
