India’s Construction Equipment Sales Fall 36% in August 2025, JCB Stays Ahead with 54% Share
India’s construction equipment market faced a sharp contraction in August 2025, with industry sales falling by 35.79% compared to the same month last year. According to industry data, just 3,738 units of construction machinery were sold during the month, down from 5,076 units in August 2024. The slump highlights the challenges faced by the infrastructure and real estate sectors, where slower project activity and financing constraints have dampened demand.
JCB Maintains Strong Hold Despite Market Slowdown
Even in a declining market, JCB India continued to dominate, securing the top spot with 2,019 units sold and a commanding 54.01% market share. This performance underscores JCB’s strong dealer network and brand loyalty across contractors and industrial buyers.
ACE (Action Construction Equipment) came in second, selling 383 units with a 10.25% share, followed by Escorts Kubota, which sold 236 units (6.31%). AJAX Engineering recorded 208 units, while All Terrain Crane sold 142 units, both holding small but steady portions of the market.
Year-to-Date (April–August 2025): Marginal Industry Decline
Looking at the April to August 2025 period, total sales reached 28,207 units, compared to 29,278 units during the same five months last year — a modest 3.66% decline year-on-year.
- JCB led once again with 11,259 units sold and a 39.92% share, although this was lower than its 46.40% share in 2024.
- ACE followed with 3,285 units (11.65%), while Ajax grew marginally to 1,982 units, securing a 7.03% share.
- Escorts Kubota slipped slightly with 1,819 units and a 6.45% share, whereas Case New Holland rounded out the top five with 919 units and a small growth in market presence.
Several global and domestic players, such as Caterpillar, Liugong, Tata Hitachi, and Bull, also contributed to sales, with Liugong and Tata Hitachi recording notable gains compared to last year.
Industry Outlook: Festive Season to Provide Relief?
While August sales highlighted a challenging environment, industry experts remain cautiously optimistic. The upcoming festive season traditionally fuels higher demand, as contractors and fleet owners prefer to expand capacity during this period. Moreover, government-backed infrastructure spending and state-led road projects are expected to create opportunities for equipment manufacturers in the months ahead.
For now, however, the August 2025 figures signal a period of correction for India’s construction equipment market, where only the most competitive brands with strong dealer support and product reliability can withstand the pressure.
