Chhattisgarh PMGSY Roads Project Expands Rural Connectivity
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has laid the foundation stone for 774 new roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, marking a major step towards strengthening rural infrastructure. The project will cover 2,426.875 km and involves an investment of ₹2,225.44 crore, highlighting the government’s focus on improving connectivity and boosting economic activity in villages.
PMGSY roads project to improve access across villages
Under this PMGSY roads project, around 781 habitations will receive all weather road connectivity. The initiative is expected to significantly improve transportation, making it easier for residents to access schools, hospitals, and markets.
The Chief Minister stated that the scheme, originally launched during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has become a backbone for rural development. With better roads, villages are likely to witness faster movement of goods and people, which will contribute to stronger local economies.
New initiatives support farmers and rural economy
Alongside the PMGSY roads project, the state government has also expanded agricultural support systems. A total of 515 Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies have been launched recently, taking the overall number to 2,573.
These societies aim to simplify access to fertilisers, seeds, and short term loans for farmers. They will also streamline paddy procurement processes. The government is currently procuring paddy at ₹3,100 per quintal, providing better returns to farmers.
In a major financial move, ₹10,000 crore was transferred to the bank accounts of 25.28 lakh farmers before Holi, offering direct economic support and improving liquidity in rural areas.
Ongoing and future PMGSY roads expansion plans
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma confirmed that construction work for the newly announced roads will begin soon. He also noted that more than 1,300 roads have already been completed over the past two years, particularly in tribal regions where connectivity has been a long standing challenge.
Officials further revealed that under PMGSY Phase IV, around 3,065 roadless habitations have been identified. Plans are already underway to bring these areas under road connectivity in the coming phases, ensuring wider coverage across the state.
