Tata Motors Secures 250 Electric Truck Order India

India’s electric truck market continues to expand as Tata Motors secures a major order for 250 electric trucks from BillionE Mobility. The deal involves the supply of Prima E.55S heavy-duty trucks, reflecting the growing shift toward sustainable freight solutions.

The company has confirmed that deliveries will be carried out in phases, although a detailed timeline has not been disclosed.

Deployment Across Key Logistics Routes

The order consists of 250 units of the Prima E.55S, a 55-tonne electric prime mover built for long-haul applications. These trucks will be deployed across major logistics corridors including Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

BillionE Mobility plans to use the fleet for transporting industrial goods such as steel, cement, and other bulk materials. This large-scale deployment is expected to strengthen the electric truck market by enabling cleaner transportation across high-volume freight routes.

Battery, Range and Charging Capabilities

The Prima E.55S is offered with battery options of 300 kWh and 450 kWh, with BillionE Mobility opting for the larger 450 kWh LFP pack.

This configuration delivers a driving range of up to 350 kilometres on a single charge, making it suitable for long-distance logistics operations.

The truck supports fast charging through a CCS2 dual-gun charger, with charging time estimated at around 1.5 hours. These capabilities position the vehicle strongly within the evolving electric truck market, where range and turnaround time are critical.

Performance and Safety Features

The truck is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted on the rear axle, delivering up to 470 kW of power.

It is capable of climbing gradients of up to 28 percent, ensuring strong performance even under heavy load conditions. The Prima E.55S is equipped with multiple safety and driver assistance features such as cruise control, driver monitoring system, electronic braking system, lane departure warning, and tyre pressure monitoring.

Additional features like advanced emergency braking and forward collision warning are offered as optional enhancements, further improving safety standards in the electric truck market.

Conclusion

The order for 250 units highlights rising demand in the electric truck market as logistics operators move toward cleaner and more efficient transport solutions. With its strong range, high power output, and advanced safety features, the Prima E.55S is expected to play a key role in accelerating the adoption of electric heavy-duty trucks across India.
