India urges Iran to fast-track oil cargo movement
India has urged Tehran to expedite the movement of India-bound crude oil and gas cargoes as the country seeks to quickly rebuild fuel inventories during a temporary ceasefire window. The request comes amid ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which continues to affect global energy shipping routes.
India pushes Iran to accelerate oil and gas shipments
India is pressing Iran to allow faster clearance of oil and gas cargoes bound for Indian refineries. The aim is to take advantage of the limited ceasefire period to rebuild domestic fuel stocks and stabilise supply chains.
A shipping ministry official said the focus is on speeding up cargo turnaround so vessels can be redeployed efficiently. However, logistical and geopolitical constraints continue to slow overall recovery.
Strait of Hormuz disruption delays global oil trade recovery
The Strait of Hormuz disruption remains a major bottleneck for global energy flows. Despite a ceasefire, industry executives estimate that a full return to normal oil trade could take at least three months.
Multiple operational bottlenecks slowing recovery
Several factors are delaying recovery, including slow vessel movement, limited availability of ships and insurance coverage, loading restrictions, and production shut-ins across affected regions.
These constraints are preventing a rapid normalization of oil and gas trade routes, keeping supply chains under pressure.
India-bound oil shipments face vessel backlog
A significant number of India-bound oil shipments remain stuck due to ongoing congestion in the region. Sixteen India-flagged vessels are currently stranded in the Persian Gulf, while only a limited number of LPG carriers have managed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in recent weeks.
Around 800 vessels affected in region
Industry estimates suggest that nearly 800 vessels are currently impacted by the disruption. Clearing this backlog is expected to take considerable time, further delaying supply recovery for India and other importing nations.
India’s efforts to expedite oil cargo movement highlight the urgency of restoring energy supply chains amid ongoing Strait of Hormuz disruptions. However, with thousands of vessels delayed and multiple logistical barriers in place, industry experts expect a gradual recovery rather than a rapid return to normal trade.
