India Reports Record Toll Collections in Fiscal Year 2026

India’s toll collection system saw a significant boost in the financial year 2025-26, reaching an all-time high despite global disruptions. The surge highlights the impact of new toll roads, the rollout of the annual FASTag facility, and growing economic activity across the country.

Toll Collections Hit ₹82,900 Crore in FY26

Total toll collections from commercial vehicles climbed to ₹27,193 crore in March, up from ₹6,924.57 crore in February, despite challenges posed by the Iran war. For the entire fiscal year, toll revenues rose 14 per cent to ₹82,900.16 crore, up from ₹72,930.83 crore in FY25.

This increase reflects the expansion of tolled road networks, accelerated economic activity, and the adoption of India’s annual FASTag system, which simplifies electronic toll collection.

The volume of FASTag transactions also grew 5.7 per cent, reaching nearly 4.45 billion in FY26 compared to 4.21 billion in FY25, according to data tracked by the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) system and maintained by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI).

Expansion of Tolled Roads Boosts Collections

Over the past eight years, annual toll collections in India have more than tripled. When electronic data tracking began in FY19, collections totaled ₹25,164.50 crore. During this period, India’s tolled road length more than doubled, from 26,067 km in FY19 to 55,812 km as of November 2025.

A senior government official highlighted that the addition of new toll plazas has improved logistics efficiency, reduced travel time, and enhanced ease of movement for highway users, directly contributing to the increase in collections.

Future Growth Driven by Technology

Looking ahead, toll revenues are expected to grow further as India adopts advanced tolling mechanisms and gradually eliminates physical toll plazas. Digital platforms like FASTag and other automated systems will enhance collection efficiency while supporting India’s infrastructure modernization efforts.
