Novelic Launches Operations in India with Advanced Radar Solutions
Belgrade-based Novelic, a leading provider of millimetre-wave radar technology, has officially entered the Indian market through its new entity, Novelic India Private Ltd, headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The expansion aims to address growing demand for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) across India’s rapidly evolving mobility sector.
Strategic Expansion and Production Capabilities
Novelic’s entry builds on infrastructure already established in India. Earlier this year, the company, in collaboration with parent firm Sona Comstar, inaugurated India’s first 60 GHz radar production line. This facility is slated to begin manufacturing in-cabin monitoring radar modules for a major western Tier 1 automotive supplier later in 2026.
Focus on 79 GHz ASPER Radar Platform
Central to Novelic India’s strategy is the ASPER 79 GHz automotive radar platform. Key features include:
- 180-degree horizontal field of view
- Ultra-short, short, and mid-range ADAS applications
- Patent-protected design consolidating multiple safety functions into a single hardware unit
The platform offers a cost-effective alternative to conventional multi-sensor setups, enabling vehicle manufacturers to reduce hardware complexity while meeting safety requirements.
Regulatory Alignment and Commercial Vehicle Applications
Meeting India’s Updated Safety Standards
Novelic’s launch coincides with amendments to Indian automotive standards AIS 145, AIS 186, and AIS 187, which mandate safety features such as moving off information systems, blind spot detection, and reverse parking assist for commercial vehicles.
- A single ASPER module can satisfy multiple regulatory requirements simultaneously on one side of a vehicle
- Supports moving off alerts, blind spot monitoring, and parking assistance
Expanding to Passenger Vehicles
For passenger cars, ASPER enables park assist, blind spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alerts, potentially replacing multiple ultrasonic sensors and corner radars with a single radar module.
Potential in Two- and Three-Wheeler Segment
India’s largest vehicle category by volume presents significant opportunities. The ASPER platform supports advanced rider assistance features, including:
- Blind spot detection
- Front and rear collision warning
- Front cross-traffic alerts
All radar processing occurs on the sensor’s integrated system-on-chip, making it viable for lower-cost vehicles without dedicated ADAS control units or in-vehicle networks.
