Valeo Commissions E-Axle Line In Pune For Mahindra’s Born Electric Vehicles

French auto component major Valeo has inaugurated a new electric powertrain manufacturing line at its Pune facility, marking a significant step in localising advanced EV technologies for India. The facility will supply integrated e-axles for Mahindra & Mahindra’s upcoming Born Electric vehicles.

The newly commissioned line will produce Valeo’s 3-in-1 e-axle, combining the motor, inverter, and transmission into a compact, high-efficiency unit. Designed and manufactured in India, the system aims to enhance performance, packaging, and overall efficiency for electric vehicles.

Executives highlighted the importance of localisation. Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo’s power division, noted, “Local production strengthens our ability to support customers with advanced technologies.” Jayakumar G, President of Valeo India, added that the Pune line brings cutting-edge manufacturing closer to clients, reflecting Valeo’s long-term commitment to the Indian market.

Strategic Significance For Mahindra And Valeo

The initiative benefits both companies: Valeo expands its local footprint in high-value EV components, while Mahindra secures a reliable, local supply of critical e-powertrain systems for its next-generation electric SUVs. With automakers increasingly localising key components to reduce costs and supply chain risks, the Pune e-axle line is expected to be central to scaling production volumes.

The Pune facility aligns with Valeo’s global ‘Elevate 2028’ roadmap. The company plans to invest over €200 million in India over the next three years, aiming to increase local revenues from €220 million to approximately €700 million by 2028. The expansion focuses on electrification and localisation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), positioning India as a hub for next-generation mobility technologies.
