Mercedes-Benz Launches eArocs 400 Electric Construction Truck
Mercedes-Benz Trucks has officially launched sales of its battery-electric eArocs 400, marking a significant step in electrifying construction vehicles across Europe. The small-series model is now available for order in 13 EU markets, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, and the Nordic countries.
Production and Integration
The base vehicle will be produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, Germany, starting in Q3 2026. The electric drivetrain will then be integrated by the Paul Group, following a modular system introduced with the second-generation eActros 600.
Design and Battery Technology
The eArocs 400 retains the sturdy frame, steel suspension, and proven hypoid and planetary axles of its diesel predecessor while incorporating electric drivetrain components:
- Battery: Up to two LFP packs totaling 414 kWh, positioned behind the cab in a battery tower.
- Charging: 800 V system, up to 400 kW via CCS2 ports, 10–80% charge in ~46 minutes.
- Drivetrain: Central drive with integrated three-speed gearbox, continuous output 380 kW, peak 450 kW.
Performance and Configurations
- Gross Vehicle Weight: 37–44 tonnes
- Wheelbases: Four options; available as mixer or tipper
- Range: Mixer up to 200 km; tipper up to 240 km per full charge
- Cab: M-cab with low-maintenance interior, optional berth, full galvanization for durability
The eArocs 400 is designed for demanding construction-site operations, providing sufficient ground clearance, off-road capability, and traction across varied terrain. Cold-weather testing ensures reliable performance in icy conditions.
Market Impact
Mercedes-Benz Trucks positions the eArocs 400 as a locally CO₂-free solution for near-road construction transport. The vehicle enables environmentally sustainable operations while maintaining productivity and robustness expected in heavy-duty construction trucks.
