Karol Bagh Bus Accident Leaves Two Dead, 23 Injured

In the early hours of March 25, a private sleeper bus traveling from Jaipur to Delhi overturned in the bustling Karol Bagh area, claiming the lives of two passengers and injuring 23 others. Authorities confirmed that 25 people were on board when the vehicle lost control near the Jhandewalan Temple, a section of the city known for heavy traffic and pedestrian activity.

Rescue Operations and Eyewitness Accounts

Police teams, Delhi Fire Services personnel, and local residents quickly rushed to the scene to assist trapped passengers. Eyewitness Raghu recalled that many travelers were momentarily stuck inside the bus due to the severe impact, requiring a JCB machine to lift the vehicle and free them safely. “Almost all passengers were hurt from the collision, and the police had to bring in a JCB to rescue those trapped inside,” he said. Emergency responders transported the critically injured to nearby hospitals: 10 to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 12 to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, and one to Lady Hardinge Medical College. Unfortunately, two male passengers later succumbed to their injuries at RML Hospital.

Cause and Investigation

Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus driver may have lost control while driving at high speed, though the exact cause of the accident remains under review. Eyewitnesses noted that the stretch of road was poorly lit, which could have affected the driver’s visibility. The 26-year-old driver, Pankaj Kumar from Alwar, Rajasthan, is in custody and receiving medical treatment at Lady Hardinge Medical College. Authorities continue to examine the incident to determine the sequence of events and any contributing factors.
