EKA Mobility and GreenCell Secure 915 Electric Buses Order for Hyderabad
EKA Mobility, in consortium with GreenCell Mobility, has been awarded the Letter of Award for supplying and deploying 915 electric buses in Hyderabad. The project is part of the Government of India’s PM E-DRIVE scheme and will be implemented through Convergence Energy Services Limited as the nodal procurement agency. The order marks a significant step in expanding electric public transport in one of India’s key metropolitan cities.
Hyderabad Electric Bus Deployment Under PM E-DRIVE Scheme
The contract includes 100 nine-metre electric buses and 815 twelve-metre standard-floor non-AC buses designed for urban transport operations. The deployment is part of a wider national initiative to accelerate electric mobility adoption in public transport systems.
Hyderabad is among five major cities included in the first phase of the PM E-DRIVE scheme, which targets large-scale electrification of city bus fleets across India. The programme aims to reduce emissions and modernise urban transit infrastructure.
Operational Model Under CESL Gross Cost Contract
The project will be executed under CESL’s Gross Cost Contract model, where the consortium will manage procurement, operations, maintenance, and charging infrastructure development. The city transport authority will pay a fixed cost per kilometre while fare revenue remains with the agency.
This model is designed to ensure predictable costs for public transport authorities while enabling private operators to manage fleet efficiency and service quality. It also supports faster deployment of electric buses without upfront capital burden on state agencies.
Expanding EKA Mobility and GreenCell Partnership
The Hyderabad order strengthens the ongoing collaboration between EKA Mobility and GreenCell Mobility, which has already secured multiple large-scale electric bus projects across India. The consortium has previously won contracts in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan and has deployed buses in Puducherry under national EV schemes.
These repeated wins highlight the growing role of the partnership in India’s electric public transport transformation, particularly under government-led procurement programmes.
EKA Mobility and GreenCell Growth in EV Ecosystem
EKA Mobility is a Pune-based electric vehicle manufacturer offering multiple electric bus platforms for urban and intercity transport. The company has received international investment support and technical collaborations to expand its EV portfolio.
GreenCell Mobility is one of India’s leading electric bus operators, managing fleet operations, charging infrastructure, and maintenance across multiple states. Backed by institutional investors, the company continues to scale its electric mobility footprint through long-term government contracts.
India’s Push Toward Electric Public Transport
India’s electric bus segment is expanding rapidly under government initiatives aimed at reducing emissions and strengthening domestic EV manufacturing. Large-scale tenders like PM E-DRIVE are expected to play a key role in transitioning urban transport fleets to cleaner energy alternatives.
The Hyderabad deployment represents a major step in this direction, contributing to wider efforts to build sustainable and low-emission public transport systems across Indian cities.
