IntrCity SmartBus Opens Tirupati Lounge for Pilgrims

IntrCity SmartBus has launched a dedicated traveller lounge in Tirupati to support passengers arriving early for temple visits. The facility is designed to improve last-mile convenience for pilgrims, especially those travelling overnight on intercity bus routes.

Located near the RTC Bus Stand, the new lounge offers essential amenities like luggage storage, shower facilities, and changing rooms, catering to the needs of devotees before their visit to the Sri Venkateswara Temple.

IntrCity SmartBus Tirupati lounge facilities for pilgrims

The newly opened IntrCity SmartBus Tirupati lounge is aimed at passengers who reach the city early in the morning and require a space to freshen up before darshan. With a high volume of overnight arrivals, the demand for such facilities has been steadily increasing.

Tirupati remains one of the busiest pilgrimage destinations in India, witnessing daily footfall of around 60,000 to 80,000 devotees. Annual visits are estimated between 30 million and 40 million, making it one of the most visited religious sites globally.

The lounge addresses a key gap in travel infrastructure by offering practical amenities close to the arrival point, helping passengers manage time and comfort more efficiently.

Rising religious tourism driving infrastructure demand

The launch of the IntrCity SmartBus Tirupati lounge comes at a time when religious tourism in India is witnessing significant growth. According to government data, domestic visits to religious destinations crossed 1.43 billion in 2022.

This segment contributes over 60 percent of total tourism activity and generated approximately Rs 1.34 lakh crore in revenue. With projections estimating the market to reach 59 billion dollars by 2028, the demand for improved travel infrastructure is expected to rise further.

IntrCity SmartBus currently operates on more than 630 routes across 15 states, connecting major pilgrimage destinations such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Shirdi. The company has been expanding its presence in these high-demand corridors to support organised bus travel.

Conclusion

The introduction of the IntrCity SmartBus Tirupati lounge reflects a growing focus on enhancing the overall travel experience for pilgrims. By offering basic yet essential facilities, the company is addressing real challenges faced by early-arriving passengers.

As religious tourism continues to expand across India, such initiatives are likely to play a key role in improving convenience and accessibility for millions of travellers.
