Tamil Nadu Petrol Pump Suspended for Unsafe Fuel Dispensing

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has suspended a petrol pump in Tamil Nadu after receiving reports that fuel was being dispensed into loose containers. Officials flagged the practice as unsafe and a serious risk to public safety.

The government has instructed all retail outlets nationwide to strictly follow fuel dispensing safety guidelines. Consumers are advised not to carry or store petrol in inappropriate containers to prevent accidents and hazards.

Fuel Availability Remains Stable

Despite reports of panic buying and hoarding in some areas, officials assured the public that petrol and diesel supplies are adequate at retail outlets across the country.

Key advisories for consumers include:

  • Avoid storing petrol or other fuels in loose or unsafe containers
  • Follow instructions from retail outlet staff during refueling
  • Do not panic buy; fuel supplies are steady and reliable

These steps are aimed at ensuring both safety and uninterrupted fuel distribution.

Measures for LPG Supply

The government is also monitoring cooking gas supply amid rising demand. Around 60 lakh households located near piped natural gas (PNG) networks are being encouraged to consider switching to piped connections for convenience and safety.

To manage the increased demand, the Ministry of Petroleum has:

  • Increased the minimum gap between LPG cylinder bookings from 21 days to 25 days
  • Advised citizens not to rush bookings
  • Reassured that normal deliveries are continuing despite high booking requests

Officials warned that hoarders and black marketers attempting to exploit the situation will face strict action.

Enforcement of Safety Standards

Retail outlets are required to comply with all fuel safety protocols. Violations, such as dispensing fuel in loose containers, will lead to immediate suspension and further action as deemed necessary.

The Tamil Nadu suspension highlights the government’s focus on consumer safety. Regular inspections are being carried out to ensure adherence to safety norms and prevent accidents during fuel handling.

Public Awareness and Safety

The Ministry of Petroleum continues to stress the importance of public awareness. Consumers are urged to report unsafe practices at petrol pumps. By following the government’s advisories, citizens can contribute to safe fuel usage while ensuring steady supply.

The incident serves as a reminder that safety must be a priority during fuel handling, even amid heightened demand or panic buying.
