NHAI Revises FASTag Annual Pass for 2026-27
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has updated the pricing for the FASTag Annual Pass for the 2026-27 financial year. Non-commercial vehicle owners will now pay Rs 3,075, up from Rs 3,000, for one-year validity or 200 crossings through designated national highway toll plazas. The decision was announced on March 12, 2026, and will be effective from April 1, 2026.
Purpose of the FASTag Annual Pass
Launched on August 15, 2025, the FASTag Annual Pass was introduced to reduce the burden of frequent toll payments and improve ease of commuting on national highways. The pass allows eligible vehicle owners including cars, jeeps, and vans registered for non-commercial use to make unlimited crossings up to 200 times in a year at participating toll plazas without paying the individual toll fee each time.
Users can purchase the pass through the Rajmargyatra mobile application or the NHAI website, making it accessible and convenient for commuters across the country.
Usage Statistics and Popular Locations
FASTag Annual Pass adoption has been significant with over 50 lakh users currently benefiting from the scheme. This represents nearly 28 percent of all non-commercial car transactions on national highways.
High-traffic toll plazas report substantial pass usage:
- Bijwasan Fee Plaza on the Delhi-Gurugram border records 57 percent usage
- Mundka Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road II in Delhi records 53 percent usage
- Jhinjholi Fee Plaza on Sonipat-Bawana Highway reports 53 percent usage
Regionally, Chandigarh leads with 14 percent of total Annual Pass transactions, followed by Tamil Nadu at 12.3 percent and Delhi at 11.5 percent.
Coverage and Validity
The FASTag Annual Pass is valid at approximately 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and expressways. At toll plazas managed by state governments, local bodies, or on state highways, the pass functions as a standard FASTag with applicable toll fees charged separately.
The pass is not mandatory. Regular FASTag users can continue to pay per crossing without subscribing to the Annual Pass. Once a pass reaches either 200 trips or one-year validity, it automatically reverts to a regular FASTag. Users can repurchase a new Annual Pass even before the year ends if the trip limit is exhausted.
National FASTag Adoption
Since the inception of FASTag in 2016, 11.86 crore FASTags have been issued with 5.9 crore active tags facilitating seamless toll collection on national highways. Over 98 percent of toll revenue on these highways is now collected electronically through FASTag, showing its growing acceptance among commuters.
The Annual Pass has recorded over 26.55 crore transactions by January 2026, indicating strong user adoption and the effectiveness of the system in simplifying toll payments.
Annual Rate Revision
The increase from Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,075 follows the National Highway Fee Determination of Rates and Collection Amendment Rules 2025, which require an annual review of pass rates. NHAI’s revision ensures that the scheme remains sustainable while continuing to provide convenience for non-commercial vehicle owners.
Commuters using the Annual Pass can plan long-term travel efficiently, avoid frequent toll payments, and enjoy simplified electronic transactions across India’s national highways.
