Daimler Truck India Names Radhakrishnan Kodakkal CEO

Daimler Truck Innovation Center India (DTICI) has announced the appointment of Radhakrishnan Kodakkal as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Kodakkal takes over from Raghavendra Vaidya, who has been promoted to the role of global Chief Information Officer at Daimler Truck AG.

This leadership transition comes at a pivotal time for DTICI, one of Daimler Truck’s largest development hubs outside Germany, headquartered in Bengaluru. The centre has grown rapidly since its inception in December 2021, emerging as a key hub for engineering, software, and IT operations across global markets.

Kodakkal to Drive Engineering, Digital, and IT Expansion

In his new role, Kodakkal will oversee DTICI’s engineering and digital operations, collaborating closely with global teams in product engineering, technology, and IT. His mandate includes expanding India’s contribution to Daimler Truck’s global technology network, particularly in engineering, software, digital platforms, and IT operations.

Bringing over 30 years of experience, Kodakkal has led technology and R&D functions across multinational companies. He most recently served as Global Head of Integrated Technology and Vice President at Whirlpool Corporation, managing global technology planning, R&D operations, and cross-regional innovation programs. He has also led large-scale digital transformation initiatives and developed connected, sustainable technology solutions.

Leadership Endorsements and Future Vision

Thomas Ulm, Chairman of DTICI, highlighted Kodakkal’s expertise, stating, “As DTICI continues to play a central role in Daimler Truck’s global engineering and IT network, his leadership will strengthen the centre as a trusted innovation and delivery hub.”

Ulm also praised outgoing CEO Vaidya, noting that under his guidance, DTICI became integral to Daimler Truck’s worldwide operations. Both leaders are expected to collaborate closely, with Vaidya now handling CIO responsibilities at the group level.

Kodakkal said the appointment comes at an exciting time for the automotive industry. “The sector is undergoing significant transformation. I aim to build on DTICI’s established capabilities and work with global colleagues to deliver scalable, sustainable technology solutions prepared for future demands,” he said.

DTICI’s Strategic Role in Global Innovation

DTICI was founded in December 2021 and has become a core development hub supporting all Daimler Truck brands worldwide. With a strong focus on engineering and IT, the centre is increasingly important as the trucking and commercial vehicle sector embraces electrification, connectivity, and software-driven systems.

The leadership change aligns with Daimler Truck’s strategy to deepen investments in India for engineering, digital innovation, and IT delivery, ensuring the company’s long-term product and technology roadmap remains robust amid global industry shifts.

The appointment of Radhakrishnan Kodakkal as MD & CEO marks a new chapter for DTICI. His global experience and expertise in technology and R&D are expected to accelerate India’s role in Daimler Truck’s innovation and delivery capabilities, reinforcing the centre’s significance within the company’s worldwide operations.
