CSK-Branded Fan Bus Launched
As part of the partnership, Ashok Leyland introduced a CSK-branded fan bus aimed at supporters known for their rallying cry, Whistle Podu. The vehicle reflects the company’s core focus on passenger and goods transport while enhancing fan engagement and connecting the brand with the cricket franchise.
Longstanding Ties and Strategic Intent
While this is Ashok Leyland’s first direct sponsorship of CSK, the Hinduja Group has longstanding ties with the franchise through Gulf Oil, a group company that has partnered with CSK for over 15 years. The new agreement demonstrates the conglomerate’s strategy to expand visibility in sports as IPL viewership and attendance continue to rise.
CSK and Ashok Leyland: Shared Roots
Founded in 2008, CSK has won five IPL titles and ranks among the league’s most commercially valuable and widely supported franchises. Ashok Leyland, established in 1948 as Ashok Motors, has deep roots in Chennai and is a leading manufacturer of trucks, buses, defence vehicles, and light commercial vehicles in India.
Dheeraj Hinduja highlighted the alignment of shared values between the company and the team, citing CSK’s consistency as a foundation for the partnership. KS Viswanathan, MD of CSK, noted that Ashok Leyland’s local roots complement the franchise’s identity, while Shenu Agarwal emphasised the deal’s aim to create emotional connections with consumers beyond traditional brand visibility. Financial details were not disclosed.
Ashok Leyland’s sponsorship of CSK marks a significant collaboration between Indian industry and cricket, blending brand visibility with cultural engagement. The CSK-branded fan bus and jersey branding signal a fresh approach to connecting with fans and strengthening the company’s presence in India’s sports ecosystem.
