ACDelco Returns to India Under Licensing Deal

ACDelco, the globally recognized automotive aftermarket brand owned by General Motors, has officially returned to India through a strategic licensing agreement with Assurance Intl Limited. The relaunch was announced at a formal event in New Delhi, marking the brand’s reentry into one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets.

The deal positions Assurance Intl as the licensed manufacturer and distributor for ACDelco in India. Initially, the product lineup will include automotive batteries and engine lubricants developed for passenger and commercial vehicles tailored to Indian road and climate conditions. Both companies have indicated plans to expand the range over time to include advanced battery technologies and eco-friendly lubricants.

Local Manufacturing for Quality and Reach

Battery Production in Haryana

ACDelco products will be manufactured at Assurance Intl’s Hisar facilities in Haryana, which house a dedicated battery plant. The facility will produce automotive batteries under the ACDelco label for the domestic market. Localised production ensures competitive pricing while maintaining the quality and reliability associated with the global brand.

Lubricant Blending and Packaging

In addition to battery production, engine lubricants will be manufactured at a blending and packaging unit at the same facility. This unit is equipped to produce a variety of engine oils and automotive fluids to meet the diverse needs of Indian vehicles. By combining local production with rigorous quality controls, Assurance Intl aims to deliver products that meet international standards while remaining accessible to Indian consumers.

Multi-Tier Distribution Across India

Reaching Urban and Smaller Markets

Assurance Intl plans a multi-tier distribution network spanning distributors, retailers, and service workshops across India. The structure is designed to cover major urban centres as well as smaller towns where vehicle ownership is rising and demand for aftermarket automotive products is increasing.

Supporting Passenger and Commercial Vehicles

The initial rollout focuses on products for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, ensuring broad applicability. By targeting a wide segment of the market, ACDelco hopes to establish a strong presence quickly while providing high-quality aftermarket solutions.

Strategic Benefits and Future Plans

Strengthening ACDelco’s Global Presence

Rakesh Sharma, Managing Director of Assurance Intl Limited, said the partnership combines ACDelco’s global brand strength with Assurance Intl’s manufacturing expertise and distribution reach. “This collaboration brings together complementary strengths, offering customers reliable products and services,” he said at the launch event.

Alignment with GM’s Aftermarket Strategy

Mahesh Ravindran, Country Lead for Commercial Operations at Chevrolet Sales India, highlighted that the licensing deal aligns with General Motors’ global aftermarket strategy. Instead of direct manufacturing in each market, licensing allows ACDelco to leverage local expertise while extending its global footprint.

Plans for Expansion and Sustainability

Both companies emphasised that the current product launch is the first step. Future plans include exploring eco-friendly lubricants and next-generation battery technologies, reflecting the shift toward sustainable vehicle solutions. As electric and hybrid vehicles gain traction, ACDelco aims to adapt its product offerings to meet emerging market demands.

ACDelco’s return to India represents a significant move in the automotive aftermarket sector. With localized production, broad distribution, and strategic expansion plans, the brand is set to provide high-quality automotive batteries and lubricants to Indian consumers while supporting the growth of passenger and commercial vehicle segments nationwide.
