Uber Partners with AbhiBus to Offer Intercity Bus Booking in India
Uber has partnered with AbhiBus, the bus-ticketing arm of Indian travel platform ixigo, to allow users to book intercity bus tickets directly within the Uber app. The feature went live across India on March 9, 2026, giving users access to more than 600,000 routes operated by over 6,200 bus operators. The integration is designed to mirror the simplicity of hailing a cab. Passengers can enter their origin, destination, and travel date, choose seats, and make payments without leaving the app.
Features and Benefits for Passengers
Through the Uber app, travellers can filter buses by type including AC, Sleeper, Seater, Volvo, and Scania, view 360-degree bus images on select routes, and track their bus live. AbhiBus’s “Abhi Assured” option provides compensation for service disruptions, while 24/7 customer support ensures a smoother travel experience. Rohit Sharma, COO of AbhiBus, highlighted that the integration aims to reduce friction in booking intercity buses and offers a seamless discovery process for over six lakh routes across India.
Praveen Neppalli Naga, CTO at Uber, described the partnership as a natural extension of the company’s mobility strategy. He said it unlocks a new dimension of travel for millions of users and positions Uber as a one-stop platform for both short-distance and long-distance journeys.
Strategic Advantage for Uber and AbhiBus
The tie-up allows Uber to strengthen its presence in India’s vast intercity bus market, which handles hundreds of millions of passengers annually, particularly among price-sensitive travellers. For AbhiBus, the integration provides a major distribution channel, reaching users who may not have previously considered the platform. Already an official ticketing partner for IRCTC and several state road transport corporations, AbhiBus uses Uber’s high-traffic app to expand visibility.
Owned by ixigo (Le Travenues Technology Limited), AbhiBus forms part of a larger travel ecosystem offering AI-powered bookings for trains, flights, buses, and hotels. The group reported over 540 million annual active users in FY 2025, reflecting its significant reach. The partnership was officially announced at a Gurugram event attended by Uber India and AbhiBus leadership, including Lenin Koduru, CEO of AbhiBus, and Manikandan Thangarathnam, Senior Director of Mobility and Platforms at Uber India.
