FADA three wheeler sales report shows 24.39% growth in February 2026

The latest FADA three wheeler sales report highlights strong growth in India’s three wheeler retail market in February 2026. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, total retail sales reached 1,17,130 units during the month, compared to 94,162 units sold in February 2025. This represents a year on year growth of 24.39%.

Despite the strong annual growth, the industry recorded a slight month on month decline. Sales in January 2026 stood at 1,27,134 units, meaning February sales dropped by about 7.87% compared with the previous month. Industry experts attribute this decline partly to February being a shorter month.

The FADA three wheeler sales report covers multiple categories including passenger three wheelers, passenger e rickshaws, cargo three wheelers, e carts, and personal three wheelers. The data indicates that almost all segments recorded positive year on year growth, reflecting steady demand for affordable mobility and last mile transportation across the country.

The strong performance also reflects improving economic activity and increasing demand for cost effective transport solutions in both urban and rural areas.

Passenger three wheeler segment sees significant increase

Passenger three wheeler sales recorded one of the highest growth rates in February 2026. Retail sales rose by 36.01% year on year, increasing from 44,536 units in February 2025 to 60,572 units in February 2026.

Passenger three wheelers remain a crucial part of India’s public transport ecosystem, especially in tier two and tier three cities where they provide last mile connectivity.

Passenger e rickshaws also continued to contribute significantly to this segment. A total of 34,848 passenger e rickshaws were sold in February 2026, compared to 32,342 units sold in the same month last year, registering a 7.75% annual increase.

However, on a month on month basis, passenger e rickshaw sales declined sharply by 21.61%. Sales fell from 44,456 units in January 2026 to 34,848 units in February 2026. The drop indicates some temporary market fluctuations, although overall demand remains healthy.

Cargo three wheeler sales also post strong growth

The cargo three wheeler segment also showed positive momentum in the FADA three wheeler sales report. Retail sales rose from 10,832 units in February 2025 to 14,335 units in February 2026. This represents a strong year on year growth of 32.34%.

Cargo three wheelers play a vital role in small scale logistics, especially in urban deliveries and rural goods transport. The growth in this segment reflects the rising demand for efficient last mile cargo movement.

E rickshaws with carts, which are used for goods transportation, also showed improvement in annual sales. Retail sales increased from 6,381 units in February 2025 to 7,268 units in February 2026. This translates to a year on year growth of 13.9%.

However, similar to other segments, e rickshaw cargo sales recorded a slight month on month decline of 5.07% when compared with January sales.

EVs dominate fuel wise market share in three wheelers

Electric vehicles continued to lead the Indian three wheeler retail market in February 2026. According to the FADA three wheeler sales report, battery powered vehicles accounted for 56.7% of the total three wheeler sales during the month. This confirms the rapid shift towards electric mobility in the segment.

Fuel wise retail market share in February 2026 includes:

  • Electric three wheelers accounted for 56.7% of the total market
  • CNG or LPG powered vehicles held 28.28% market share
  • Diesel three wheelers accounted for 14.64% of sales
  • Petrol and ethanol powered vehicles contributed 0.39% of the market

The report also highlighted strong rural demand. Rural Regional Transport Offices accounted for 55.1% of the total retail three wheeler registrations, while urban areas accounted for 44.9%.

Rural sales recorded a strong year on year growth of 35.28% and a month on month increase of 9.25%. Urban sales also grew, posting a 13.20% year on year increase and a 6.11% month on month rise.

Conclusion

The FADA three wheeler sales report for February 2026 indicates a strong recovery and steady expansion in India’s three wheeler market. With overall sales rising by 24.39% year on year, the segment continues to benefit from growing demand for affordable mobility and last mile logistics solutions.

Electric vehicles are emerging as the dominant fuel option, while rural markets are playing an increasingly important role in driving sales growth. Although the industry saw a slight monthly dip due to the shorter month, the overall momentum in the three wheeler sector remains positive.
