TVS Mobility and Palfinger Launch ₹350 Crore Pune Plant
Austrian lifting solutions company Palfinger has partnered with TVS Mobility Group to significantly expand its footprint in India. The collaboration includes an initial investment of €30 million (around ₹350 crore) to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Pune. The plant, expected to be operational by the end of 2027, represents Palfinger’s largest localisation move in India since entering the country in 2007. The partnership reflects both companies’ long-term vision of positioning India as a hub for manufacturing, engineering, and exports in the lifting solutions sector.
Comprehensive Mobility Support
TVS Mobility Group will act as Palfinger’s end-to-end mobility partner in India, overseeing the complete lifecycle of products manufactured locally. The collaboration includes supply chain management, logistics, sales, service, and aftermarket support. Beyond conventional distribution, the model focuses on operational reliability, uptime, and rapid response for customers operating in infrastructure-intensive and remote locations. This integrated approach ensures that clients receive comprehensive solutions, including installation, maintenance, and operating guidance.
Manufacturing Capacity and Employment
The Pune facility will initially produce over 1,000 units per year, primarily truck-mounted cranes, along with essential steel components. These products are intended to serve both domestic demand and export markets across Asia-Pacific and other regions. The first phase of the project is expected to create employment for approximately 200 people, with room for capacity expansion built into the facility’s design. Local production is expected to reduce costs by up to 30 percent, making advanced lifting solutions more accessible to Indian businesses and infrastructure projects.
Engineering and Innovation Hub
Alongside the manufacturing facility, Palfinger has partnered with L&T Technology Services to establish a global engineering centre in Pune. The centre will focus on product development, design, and engineering services for global markets, strengthening India’s role not only as a production base but also as a hub for technological innovation and research in lifting solutions.
Long-Term Strategic Outlook
Palfinger expects India to become one of its largest growth markets under its “Strategy 2030 plus” initiative. The collaboration with TVS Mobility Group is exclusive for locally manufactured products and is intended as a long-term strategic alliance without a fixed end date. By combining local manufacturing, engineering expertise, and a nationwide service network, both companies aim to deliver higher operational efficiency, faster service response, and a stronger value proposition to Indian customers.
Expanding Market Opportunities
India’s growing infrastructure sector, including highways, metros, railways, housing, and defence, has driven the need for reliable lifting solutions. With local production, integrated services, and cost efficiencies, the TVS Mobility–Palfinger partnership is expected to expand adoption of advanced cranes across Tier-II and Tier-III cities. This positions India as not just a key domestic market but also an export hub for lifting equipment across global regions.
