Olectra Unit Evey Trans Secures 1,085 E-Bus Telangana Order

Evey Trans Private Limited (EVEY), a subsidiary of Olectra Greentech Limited, has been awarded a major contract by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) for the supply, operation, and maintenance of 1,085 electric buses. Valued at approximately Rs 1,800 crore, the deal will strengthen intra-city electric mobility in Telangana and represents one of the largest single-city EV bus orders in India to date.

Details of the Order

Bus Types and Contract Duration

The order comprises 1,025 twelve-metre non-AC buses and 60 twelve-metre AC buses. The contract is structured under a 12-year Gross Cost Contract (GCC) or OPEX model, where EVEY will operate the buses while TGSRTC retains control over routes and fares. This approach allows the transport corporation to ensure consistent service delivery while shifting vehicle procurement and maintenance responsibilities to the operator.

Delivery and Operational Timeline

The buses are scheduled to be delivered over 20 months. The contract requires phased integration of charging infrastructure and depot readiness across Telangana, making it a complex logistical project in addition to a procurement exercise. Olectra Greentech will supply the buses and also handle ongoing maintenance throughout the contract period.

Significance of the Deal

Scale of Intra-City Electric Bus Deployments

This order highlights the expanding scale of electric bus deployments in India. Unlike earlier pilot projects with smaller fleets, this contract demonstrates a growing commitment to electrifying public transport in Telangana. It also underscores the role of private operators like EVEY in implementing large-scale EV transport solutions under the GCC model.

Financial and Transaction Structure

The transaction between Olectra Greentech and EVEY is classified as a related-party transaction but will be executed on an arm’s length basis. The promoter or promoter group has no financial interest in TGSRTC, ensuring transparency in the deal. The GCC/OPEX model provides predictable revenue for operators while guaranteeing service continuity for the transport authority.

Benefits for Telangana’s Public Transport

The addition of 1,085 electric buses will significantly improve intra-city connectivity and support the state’s sustainability goals. With modern buses featuring both AC and non-AC options, passengers will experience enhanced comfort and reliability. The phased deployment will also include the setup of charging stations and depot infrastructure, ensuring the fleet operates efficiently throughout its lifecycle.

Conclusion

Evey Trans’ Rs 1,800 crore contract with TGSRTC marks a milestone in India’s electric public transport landscape. By leveraging large-scale procurement, advanced infrastructure planning, and the GCC model, Telangana is setting a benchmark for sustainable urban mobility. The project reflects growing confidence in EV solutions to transform public transport while reducing operational costs and emissions.
