Delhi to Upgrade Three Major ISBTs With ₹34 Crore
Redevelopment Project Begins Next Month
The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) will start a ₹34 crore redevelopment of three key interstate bus terminals next month. The project covers Kashmere Gate ISBT, Anand Vihar ISBT, and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT, all among the busiest transport hubs in the capital. Scheduled for completion within six months, the initiative aims to transform these terminals into modern, integrated transit hubs with airport-like facilities for commuters.
Passenger Amenities and Comfort
The upgraded ISBTs will offer a range of passenger-focused facilities, including:
- Modern waiting lounges and entertainment areas
- Escalators and travelators for easy movement
- Automated ticketing machines and digital information displays
- Food courts, cloakrooms, and baby feeding/changing rooms
- Expanded departure concourses and passenger zones
Mechanised housekeeping and improved sanitation systems will ensure cleaner and safer terminals.
Infrastructure and Operational Enhancements
The project also focuses on strengthening terminal infrastructure and operational efficiency. Key upgrades include:
- Civil, electrical, and electromechanical repairs
- LED boards displaying real-time bus arrivals and departures
- RFID-based boom barriers for automated access monitoring
- Advanced surveillance and security systems
Commercial Development and Revenue Generation
A portion of the ISBT land will be converted into integrated commercial spaces to boost revenue. Planned developments include:
- Shopping complexes and cafes
- Budget hotels and office spaces
- Student housing facilities
Multimodal Connectivity and Traffic Management
The redeveloped terminals will integrate seamlessly with metro stations, railway hubs, and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Elevated concourses, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and vehicle-free zones will reduce congestion within terminals, while coordination with traffic authorities will improve traffic circulation outside.
Looking Ahead
Once complete, the ₹34 crore upgrade will modernize Delhi’s ISBTs, enhance passenger convenience, and create new commercial opportunities. The project marks a significant step toward efficient, safe, and sustainable urban transport in the national capital.
