SML Mahindra Delivers 360 Police Buses Maharashtra

In a significant step to enhance law enforcement mobility, SML Mahindra Limited has supplied 360 Special Police Buses to the Maharashtra Police. The fleet aims to boost the force’s operational readiness, allowing swift responses across urban and remote regions of the state. A flag-off ceremony was held in Pune, attended by senior Maharashtra Police officials and representatives from SML Mahindra.

Enhancing Mobility and Operational Preparedness

The Maharashtra Police operate in challenging environments, from crowded city streets to remote rural areas. The newly inducted buses are designed for durability, comfort, and performance, supporting routine patrols, coordinated deployments, crowd management, and emergency responses.

Mr. Deepak Pandey, Additional Director General of Police and Director of Police Communications, highlighted the importance of the new fleet in improving efficiency and operational control across the state. SML Mahindra representatives Mr. Prashant Kumar and Mr. Saurabh Sehgal were present to mark the occasion, emphasising the company’s commitment to providing reliable, purpose-built vehicles for India’s security forces.

SML Prestige Mini Bus: Compact Yet Powerful

At the core of the deployment is the SML Prestige Mini Bus, engineered for multi-role police operations. Built on a 2,815 mm wheelbase and six-tyre configuration, the mini bus delivers enhanced stability, ride quality, and reliability across diverse terrains. Its compact footprint makes it suitable for both urban patrols and extended field operations.

The buses come extensively customised with operationally critical exterior features: stone-protection mesh, a four-side camera system with recording capabilities, two display screens for camera footage, sequential LED bar lights with integrated sirens, high-intensity floodlights, a roof platform, and a public address system. A reverse camera further enhances manoeuvrability in tight urban or field environments.

Interior Design for Emergency Response

Inside, the Prestige Mini Bus is configured for immediate action in emergencies. It features a rear flap door, a berth, and a folding canvas stretcher for prompt assistance to personnel or civilians. The vehicle accommodates 14 occupants, including the driver, and has dedicated storage for helmets, shields, and batons, allowing quick access to essential gear.

For extended operations, an independent inverter powers floodlights without using the main battery and can be recharged via an external 220 V supply. A foldable working table enables documentation and administrative work in the field, improving operational efficiency during deployments.

Future-Ready Policing

With this deployment, Maharashtra Police gain a modern, versatile, and field-ready fleet capable of meeting the evolving demands of law enforcement. From patrolling city streets to responding in remote areas, these buses combine technology, comfort, and safety to support faster, more organised policing across the state.
