Volvo CE Completes Strategic Swecon Acquisition Europe
Volvo CE Finalises Swecon Acquisition
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has officially completed its acquisition of Swecon, marking a significant strategic expansion in Europe. The transaction, valued at an enterprise value of 7 billion SEK, includes Swecon’s operations in Sweden, Germany, and the Baltics, along with Entrack. The deal encompasses sales, rental services, aftermarket support, offices, workshop facilities, and a workforce of 1,400 employees.
The acquisition received approval from the European Commission before finalisation, allowing the two companies to combine forces and streamline operations under the Volvo CE umbrella.
Strengthening Retail and Service Operations
Volvo CE views the acquisition as a key move to reinforce its retail operations and service sales in core European markets. By integrating Swecon’s established infrastructure and customer base, Volvo CE aims to make retail operations the central focus of its European strategy, further enhancing customer service and market penetration.
The acquired operations include sales of construction equipment, rental services, and aftermarket support, allowing Volvo CE to offer a comprehensive solution to clients while expanding its presence in high-potential regions.
Financial and Operational Impact
In the first quarter of 2026, Volvo CE expects a temporary earnings dilution due to a higher inventory cost base. The acquired inventory from Swecon includes pre-acquisition wholesale margins from previous sales, which will impact earnings by an estimated SEK 300 million in Q1. Volvo CE emphasises that this effect is temporary and will end once the acquired inventory is sold.
For context, Swecon reported revenues of SEK 10 billion for the full year of 2024, highlighting the scale of operations being integrated into Volvo CE.
Strategic Outlook
This acquisition is part of Volvo CE’s broader strategy to strengthen its European footprint and improve service offerings for construction equipment clients. By combining Swecon’s strong retail and support network with Volvo CE’s established capabilities, the company expects to deliver greater efficiency, improved uptime for customers, and long-term growth in key markets.
